Post subject: Can the axles on the XJ's Dana 30 pumpkin be removed...
PostPosted: Mon Apr 16, 2007 6:54 pm
Can the axles on the XJ's Dana 30 pumpkin be removed, & then replaced by the axles & & half shafts for the KJ? My front end odyssey has me to the point that exploring this worth while. I have to replace the driveshaft anyway, & my Dana 30A needs at the very least a new input seal, and may need major repair. Has anyone explored this option?

Not really....anything can be done, but not practicle....
TJ/XJ/ZJ/YJ/LJ ect 30 fronts have the axle tubes plug welded into the center section.
You would be better off looking to adapt something that is already IFS front. Dakota, Toyota, chev, Ford, etc....

As cool as that sounds, If I'm gonna drop $10K into a Jeep, it will be a down payment on a 4-door Wrangler Rubicon!

I don't think it is a Dana 30, it is specific for the Quadratrac 4x4 system. It's what they used for the Liberator. So I don't know what kind of gear options you would have if you could graft it into a Liberty to fit larger tires.

That is where I'm gonna go next. There are a lot of solid axle Danas in the junk yards, so I was thinking of this from a cost stand point. Is it a Dana 30 in the WK?

Are there any good, in depth write-ups about the Liberator? I've seen the "gee-whiz" articles, but I'd like to read about what they did to the drive train & suspension more than the video monitors & carpetless interior.
