To build a new front drive shaft with U-joints instead of CV's?

My KJ's 4x4 has been out of action since I discovered I tore a cv boot on my front drive shaft this winter and had to remove the whole thing, and I do not wish to spend $500 on a new one to do the same thing again. What do I need to know before my friend and I begin this project?

You can get cv shafts ALOT cheaper than that.. You could look around at rebuilt units at a local Auto Parts store.

Ive never heard of anyone swaping out the cv's for u-joints. CV's usually last alot longer than u-joints and Im not even sure most ujoints could handle the angles a lift would put on them.

Hear is one way someone did it,Don't know if this guy is on L.O.S.T. or not but he put a Klune underdrive in and had to modify the front driveshaft. He went with regular u-jionts and had to make a custom seal part.Hear is part of the artical about it---http://www.jbconversions.com/pages/reviews/showpage.php?m=4wdsu&i=2006.11&p=4
