There is debate about whether its good for your engine, some on here swear one way, some point out the manufacturers reccomendations, and some, like myself, believe it is harmful to the CRD specifically(but not necessarily all diesels).

The reason its cheaper is because it is heavily subsidized, ie: your getting it cheaper because your paying for it in your taxes.

Thats why my point is that the money should be going to R&D, not subsidies. Current biofuels cannot solve our problems anyways, we should be working on next generation solutions.

Please explain...I'm currently running B20 in my CRD. Why is it harmful if it acts as a solvent and cleans out "gunk" and it lubricates better than petro diesel? Sounds to me that less gunk and better lubrication are both positives.

What's the bad side?

The last time we headed down this road people got mad, the thread was locked, and I think it got deleted. But it was entertaining while it lasted.

Chad, BTW it is good to see another Tennessean on here.

Humm...so the stuff I've been reading about biodiesel being better for your engine is not true? I read somewhere that Jeep put B5 in the CRD from the factory. Is B20 detrimental?

I don't mean to stir up a stink, I just want the best, cleanest, fuel for my CRD. If that's petro then I'll run petro. If it's bio, I'll run bio. While I'm concerned about the future of our planet, I didn't buy a diesel to "save the earth" nor did I buy one to thumb my nose at big oil. I bought it because it can tow well, and it gets pretty decent fuel mileage.

I want to make sure my CRD is around for many years.

Personally, I think good biodiesel is a good thing. I have and will continue to use it. I was just giving you a friendly heads up in case this gets heated.

I'd suggest searching on the topic. Rather than raise that hornets nest all over again. Some components in your Jeep are explicitly not warranted against BD above a B5 mixture, and there are reasons for that. Darby pointed out a obvious example of Bosch injectors in this thread: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/vie ... sc&start=0

There is a link to the locked thread within that discussion if your interested. No real point to rehash it all over again however.
