I just received my new filter and immediately noticed some big differences. Althoght the filters have similar dimensions length and width, the number of pleats and size of pleats are different. If you unfolded the Amsoil filter media you would have 1,888 square inches of filtering media. If you unfolded the OEM filter media you would have 894 square inches of filtering media. That is 211% increase in filtering area with the AMSOIL air filter vs the OEM filter. Better media AND more filtering area has to be a plus.

The stock filter has 67 pleats at 7/8" tall...the AMSOIL filter has 110 pleats at 9/8" tall.

Oh by the way, there will be a thread about the Air Flow Snorkel very soon. Dirk will be offering a "Group Buy" deal that will be very nice!

NOTE:
DIRK is selling the snorkel and JJsKJ is selling the AMSOIL FILTER. The good part is you can buy AMSOIL Filter immediately thru JJsKJ and use it in the stock box.

The good part is that they last for 100,000 miles and you do not need a cleaning kit or oil to do that...makes it cheaper than the equivavlent OEM.

Interesting...i wonder if there is an Amsoil replacement for the K&N FIPK cone filter and if there is whether it will be included in the group buy. Haven't been really trilled with my K&N FIPK purchase, but i don't have the stock box to go back to. I checked the Amsoil site and i didn't see the RF-1048 cone listed in their replacement chart. Hopefully the specs are close enough on one of the cones that i can give it a try even tho it isn't specifically listed on the chart.

I alreay asked JJ about it and he said the only one currently available that will fit the FIPK tube is 9 inches long and the FIPK is only about 6 or 7 so it may fit but it could be really tight.

Dirk will be posting today or maybe tomorrow the details of the Snorkel Group buy. I will tell you that Retail for the unit is $399.00 plus shipping. I don't want to spoil Dirks fun...so just hold your breath....or maybe use a diving snorkel to get the feel of it

They have been running production for a bit over a week now and Dirk is going out on a limb and placing an order to come with his XJ Snorkels. To get the "Group Buy" price, they will have to be prepaid. He will post pics ect.

Thanks Neatus, I did find specs on the K&N cones here and compared them to the specs on the Amsoil cones from the pdf i linked. I came to a similar conclusion, there wasn't an exact match and anything bigger won't work because its a pretty tight fit as is.

Months ago I talked with the guys is Australia. They always try to work the system to be about 140% efficient. With drag and bends it should be about 120% at the air box...better depending on speed. The other big advantage is the fact that you will usually get cleaner air to begin with. The stack gets you out of the dust zone and into cleaner air. Of couse water forging is also much improved.

If you go to dpgoffroad.com, you can get an idea from the XJ page for the snorkel.

I have put the AMSOIL Air Filter (Good Deal from JJsKJ) and it works well. I have a Diesel but it is the same filter for the Gasser. Just not having to buy OEM Filters or Puralator Filters is reason enuff for me. They are also made of a fiber that won't be destroyed if it gets wet like the stock paper filter can (happens to some Diesel owners).

Take note: JJ is in Moab and my guess is that he won't be able to complete any orders while there. so don't expect quick turn-around if you place an order.

And now it is no longer available.

Is there a filter equal to the quality that the Amsoil filter was available?

NAPA filter flows even better than the AMSOIL did and does a great job
