Anyone having any trouble with the Rack and Pinon steering. I had a clunk every time I made a tight turn(forward or reverse). I took it to the dealer, they said I needed to replace the Rack and Pinon. S*** $1300.00 I'm 5000 miles out of warranty. I took it to another mechanic who is a wheeler He checked it out and found that the rear bushing on the lower A-arm passenger side was busted. I called the dealer and talked to the service manager he was very apologetic, he checked somethings out. He told me they would replace it as under warranty plus refund the the cost of the inspection. I guess it pays to get a second opinon.

Ive been getting a nasty clunking lately.. Ill be sure to check that even though it sounds like its coming from the front. I can never tell where all the noises come from anyway. :?

Glad you got it taken care of. :)

Yeah back in Novemeber was taking 15 old for a driving lesson, he hit the gas instead of brake. Hit a rock thats when I think the damage was done. But the noise got worse and worse I finale had time to take it in. Sure glad I got a second opinion.

Just got word from the dealer. They replaced the control arm but still maintain that the noise is from the Rack and Pinion. So the dealer has decided to replace the rack and pinion anyway, UNDER WARRANTY. I must say I am impressed with Litha motors in Reno.

My dlr replaced the rack/pinion and a driveshaft only to have a Strauss mechanic determine the noise I was getting was from a single loose suspension bolt that the dlr was never able to locate!

Wonder which bolt it was?

It was one of the eccentric cam bolts on the A-arm. I forget the exact name but I posted a thread on it some time back. There's a diagram on my CarDomain page showing the exact location.

Jeepin Al and I both replaced the rack for cheap. Get a rebuilt on off of Ebay for less than $200 then either replace it yourself or take it to a mechanic and have it replaced.

It's a nasty job and is a 6 hours one. But no way it comes to what your dealer wanted. A new rack is $600.
