Thanks for the ATF idea guys (and no, that's not Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, that's Automatic Trans Fluid). I put some purple goo in last night and WOW, what a difference!!! I'm going to give it a few more miles before a complete report, but it's significantly better.

The shift points are still drastically different, and the line-launch grunt has been detuned a bit. But, if it's going to make the little beast last longer, I'd do the F37 again. But, like I suggested to Mike on the phone last night, get it done at a Dodge/Jeep dealer where they have diesel techs that have been working on oil-burners for longer that a couple years.

Glad to help. Mine came from the factory almost a quart low. That was the one thing my dealer should have checked.

My F37 was done in December before I owned the CRD. This thread got me worried, so I checked my ATF last night. It was right on the spot and the fluid was crystal clear. Guess I got lucky.

Ours came out of the factory almost 2 quarts low! How DCX's final inspection, AND my dealer's "Pre-delivery inspection" missed that I'll never know!

Funny thing is, now that ATF level is right (according to dipstick anyway) NOW the tranny has the 'Clunk' sound when shifting from Reverse to park. Never had it before!

Question about F37...

I did not notice a real difference after F37 was done. I got mine on 06/23/06. I keep hearing something about F31 and its similarities to F37 as far as power. Is it possible the dealer had already done F31, and this would be why I didn't notice anything? The shift points are DEFINITELY different though. (For the best, IMO... considering how *I* like driving)

Mine Was built in January of 06 and I got it in May 06. It's not subject to F37 and I have not had the F31 done yet. There was another flash that was done for the BCM (body control module) back in June of 06 and that detuned mine. There's a sticker on the ECM that says "Authorized Software Update" on it :? The first few weeks of my ownership of the jeep it drove like a diesel should. Then a coolant leak caused me to take it in and they did a reflash in early June. No more unintentional braking loose of the tires :(

I agree, longevity would be nice. I haven't driven mine much in the last year, but when I get a chance, I still get a big-a smile - even with the detuned line-launch zone. I drive my wife's gasser for a few weeks at a time, then get into the little diesel jeepie and it just feels good!

(at 6'9" I still can't believe I fit good in it - just weird)

I've never been able to unintentionally or intentionally break loose the tires with ESP on or off on dry roads unless I'm turning, just like my '04.

The think I find funny is the different results folks are getting from the F37 fix.

I have no experience with the pre-F37 settings, but I've broken the rear loose by accident. Heck, if I'm pulling out into a busy street, I'll pop mine in PT4WD just for the extra grip. If not, the back tires will light up for sure. Maybe I don't have a limited slip diff or something? I don't know.

I just got mine back from the F37 torque recall, I can not say I have had a single problem with the car until I took it in there to have the recall done. I only drove it 300 miles and the car stalls 3 times as the car was down shifting. I check ATF level and it barley registered. I called them and took it in and they said they would fill it and guess what when I check it again it is still low, 2 quarts low. So I went and bought some and filled it up. They are really nice at the dealership but their tech seem not to know how to read a dip stick. I have not had any problems but I will check the rest of the day to today to make sure it is at the proper level. The car does not seem to run any better maybe a little worse since the recall. I kind of wish I did not have it done. I can not belive the problems people are posting here with their crds, mine has been trouble free in the 27000 miles I have had it. Maybe I got lucky with it. Love the car though.

Dry or wet conditions?

I also have non-stock tires, and have had them on there since before I left the lot. That could have something to do with it.

Dry conditions while turning. In a straight line, they won't spin.

Oh... well yeah I've always been able to do that. :)

Okay, I wanted to close this topic out with my final report...

As stated before, I turned my KJ in to have the F37 done and got it back low on Transmission Fluid. If you get the F37 done to your truck:

DO NOT LEAVE THE AREA without checking your ATF!!!

In fact, get your service advisor, or the diesel tech to check it in front of you and show you the results. I stupidly drove for a couple days with it low. It did not do any damage that I can tell, but it certainly isn't good for it. So make them do it right before you take it back.

After putting some ATF in (about 1.25 quarts got it above the "fill" line), my transmission was acting a lot better. But it was still trying to stall itself out when I came to a stop at traffic lights. It was like it wanted to go, even though I was telling it to stop. The brand new TC was not disengaging fully. I was asked to live with it until the backordered turbo came in, which I was doing...until it rained and I went to put 'er in 4WD. Grabbed the lever and "flop," "flop," "flop." Nothing. Completely disconnected. As soon as I felt it, I remembered my brother saying he got his back from the F37 recall in exactly the same manner.

DO NOT LEAVE THE AREA without checking your 4WD level!!

So I called my advisor up and told him that I was, indeed, trying to live with the TC errors until the Turbo seal came in, but after I told him that the 4WD lever was disconnected he told me to come in. Thankfully, for all involved, I was on a work trip to St. Louis last week, so I dropped it off on Tuesday on the way to the airport and then called him on Thursday evening when I landed. He told me it was done and I could pick it up any time on Friday. Turns out, they got the new Turbo seal and replaced that, fixed my 4WD lever, fixed the tranny/TC problem by reflashing the computer, and even detailed the truck (so THAT's what it looks like when it's clean!!).

All in all, the truck is working great. The snap is gone from acceleration and deceleration (mine was getting really bad about downshifting in a really rough manner). But I don't think I've lost anything off 0-60 times. My roll-on times have actually improved. Downshifting (both when accelerating/passing, and when decelerating/stopping) has improved greatly. The only thing that takes a LOT longer now is the D to R (and R to D) transition.

So I'm happy with what Halls has done to my truck. Granted, I had to get it back low on fluids, complain to my advisor, complain to the DCX post-service experience caller, listen to the tech appologize for his error (yep, they made him call me), then take it back in. But they did right and didn't (I don't think) intentionally do anything wrong. Besides, they don't complain about lifted Jeeps and even have a JK Unlimited with a 4" lift sitting on their lot. 0So I'll give Halls
a B+ and the new Jeep TC an A.
