I spent all day Friday with the tow strap wrapped around a couple of overgrown shrubs. :)

After:

Overall I was really impressed at how fast the shrubs came out with the Liberty doing all of the grunt work. The tall tree/shrub thing in the middle needed to have the strap wrapped a little higher up on the shrub to achive the proper leverage but the other two came out without any fuss.

And in case you're wondering - I spent the rest of the weekend preparing that area for some new plants. (i.e. my back hurts and I've got some killer blisters)

Really opens up the front of your house nice.I'm sure once you get some different plants to replace the shrubs it will look good. But one thing I noticed in the pics.......I've never seen vents on the front of a house before.....Who built it?
Thats what really amazed me about the liberty, they could pull a house off of it's foundation if you could get them hooked up.

haha, looks like a fun day!

And I see what you mean by the vents LiLredLibby, would look better if they were on the rear of the house. :)

about the vents thing...not sure what the reason behind it is but our ranch has vents on the front too...guess its more economical to go straight up instead of snaking its way around the roof

I'm not too sure who put the vents in like that... We bought the house only a little over a year ago from a older lady who never took care of anything. I can say that it does get pretty hot upstairs in the summer though since the side is a south face.

Edit: And I've got to do something about that awning now that it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I did the same exact thing last weekend. I pulled out a nice tree stump. Left a pair of stripes from wheel spin when the stump made its last stand. Funny, I don't have limited slip but both rear wheels spun. Traction control never kicked in. Huh...I guess the torque was equally spread between the wheels. I've never had a car with an open diff leave two stripes on take off.

Nope...2WD...the stump was not big. I was close to getting it out via pick axe and shovel when I looked at the KJ in the driveway and realized that it would be more effective in 10 seconds than I would be in 10 minutes. My wife was laughing when she realized what I had done when she the stump on the sidewalk tied up with a tow strap.

I really like the new home you picked for the bushes...kind of a "Jungle Driveway" with an "Adventure Trail" to the front door.

Same, I dug all around it and was trying to hack through the thing with a pickaxe when I looked at my Jeep in the driveway and decided to just pull it out with the tow strap.

I used the KJ to pull out about 35 Rose of Sharon bushes froma hedgerow that lined the rear of my property the spring after I bought it. I have another 30 or 40 feet of hedgerow to pull out when the back yard dies out enough to drive on it...hopefully this week.

Thanks! I promptly got out the chain saw and went to work on the shrubs after I got all three lined up on the drive way and had removed most of the clumped dirt from the root balls. The wife was not too happy about the mess from the saw and dirt mound - but then I pulled out the shop vac and cleaned everything up all nice and neat like.

I don't even want to think about how much time I'd have spent running a shovel (if I didn't have the Liberty or similar vehicle) to remove those plants.

Ahhh Jeep based landscaping....been there done that  .
In the WJ I have pulled:
3 tree stumps
6 russian olive trees/plants/bushes/PITAs
Huge rocks for landscaping
and probally more, but I don't remember right now.
It's amazing how effective jeeps are at pulling crap out of the ground :D ....it really couldn't be easier, the hardest part is getting the plant tied up properly so it doesn't wiggle its way free from your planty doom machine.

Only thing I got to pull out this weekend was three locust trees and a Chevy Blazer that tried to go where I did with the Liberty after I made a new road in to the upper part of my property down in Southeastern Ohio. Got to use chain saws, a back hoe and a dozer!!! You know what they say about a boy and his toys!

As far as the vents he should have them on the front and rear both of course depending on where the rooms are upstairs. They are just attic vents and most likely done after someone blew in insulation in the attic.
