UNOfficial Badlands Run May 6th

If we all bring our own lunches, we can spend less time prepping food and more time wheeling and hanging out. I'll need to call it quits at 2:00 (yardwork!), so more trail time = better. Lunch around 11:30 would be a nice break after 2 hours of wheeling.

I'm down for whatever, but BYO is best for me and my vegetarian daughter. (And don't give her any crap about it, she's only 5!)

I got a medium sized coleman grill i can bring along. It can fit a lot of hotdogs on it. If were up for grilling i will bring hotdogs, buns, and the grill.

But Video Guy is right...it will take more time. We could just make sandwiches and get it over with quick so we have more time to ride. What do you all want to do? I'm up for anything....

BTW...we can get on the trail at 9:15 if everyone is there early enough and we get everyone aired down and ready to go.

quick and easy (sandwiches) is prob the best way to go.

I'll be there by 9ish Attica time.

My rear hitch came in today so I now have front and rear tow points.

now i just hope my rock rails come in sometime before friday.

As of last night....my CB is now working! lol...that makes me happy! :lol:

I also now have front and rear tow pts. so I'm good to go....minus BBs but ah well.

My sisters bf and me should be at the park around 8:45-9ish so we'll be looking for you guys if some of you aren't already there. And sandwiches sound good...I'll bring a loaf of bread, chips, and blah blah blah....whatever else you guys can bring would be great (chips, extra drinks, lunch meat, etc..)

Andy: Are you going to be taking pictures? I'll definitely have a camcorder on hand. I'll mount it on the roof so I can spin it around through the sunroof, shooting both front and rear views. (As long as I'm not the tail gunner, that is.)

Well things have changed on my side of the spectrum and I now won't have any passengers and my sisters BF has other plans so it looks like it will just be me myself making this one.

Can't wait to meet you all down there...I've met a few of you but some I haven't. Can't wait to get wheelin'!!!

To all the Illinois boys and girls... I cannot meet at hinsdale oasis. I have to drop off my toddler at the inlaws before me and the wife go to the badlands. we should be @ the badlands by 9:30 Eastern time but i havent driven there by myself so well see! Last time i followed a few people. Anyone from the will/cook county area wanna ride together leaving on I-80 @ RTE 45 in frankfort, IL send me a message if not i will see you all there.

I'm about as stock as you, all I have is a CB radio and front and rear tow pts. No lift, boulder bars, or wheels and tires.

If you have tow points (at very least a rear) and you're up for giving it a try, this is probably a good run to attend because there are less-experienced drivers and mostly stock/close to stock rigs. It's completely up to you, you gotta start somewhere and the badlands is a pretty nice place to begin. We welcome you to attend if you want, you wont be pushed into trying every obstacle and there are ways around certain things, but you will wheel at your own risk knowing the consequences of offroading.

My dad is gonna be tagging along and he will probly be taking most of the pictures but I will defintly have my camera with me. now its just a choice of which lens to use.

Six vehicles is a nice-sized group. Last time I was there, we had twice that number, and there was a lot of sitting and idling. I look forward to playtime in the quarry.

No CB yet. I blame Mother's Day. :wink:

Plus, I'm saving my $ for a good transmission skid plate. Maybe once I get my bonus in July... If Fry's Electronics can knock a few bucks off a certain display model, I'll have a CB tomorrow. Otherwise, I'll just bring my FRS radios and piggyback off someone with a CB.

Just a reminder for freshmud and other Badlands newbies: Tow hooks are required.

On the topic of recovery, let's make sure we have the bare minimum. I can contribute a Keeper recovery strap (2" x 20 ft, 17K lbs. break strength). I'll also have assorted hand tools, tire plug kit, and little (180 psi) air compressor. We should have a shovel too. Anybody have a trail shovel they can bring?

I've got 2 2"x30' keeper straps (and a d ring shackle to join them if need be), misc tools, and a 48" hilift. no shovel tho =/

I know you talked about bringing the 2-ways too...just as long as someone w/ a CB can keep in contact with you we'll be good. We can communicate without getting out of our vehicles and we can cover more ground this way (of course). Of course we'll have to spot certain sections, especially for the newbs.

When did they start requiring tow hooks? I mean, I know it's common sense but I dont recall them ever checking/and or asking when I've been there. Never read it on their site either, but I knew it was a Group requirement. A rear tow pt. is def. the bare minimum.

I have a 2" x 20 ft. strap and I plan on getting another, and I'll look at a cheap, foldable shovel when I got get the strap. I'll throw a few pieces of wood in my box just in case we would need it for some reason (jacking, recovery..etc..). I'll bring my tool box with just about every socket we'll need....as well as an extra bottle jack since most of us are stock height. I'll bring the air guage.....we can air up after we're done up at the main building.

As for food....I suppose bring what you can. Most of us know what we're already bringing.

I'll throw in a few portable chairs if we got some time to sit at lunch.

Should be an AWESOME time...I'm already getting excited about it!!!

The rules state that you need a roll cage. Do I need a roll cage for my truck or SUV?
As long as the cab is as it was originally and you have seat belts and no back seat passengers.

So that means no kids to ride along, or anyone else exept 1 front seat passenger?

No way am I putting my 5-year-old in the front seat with me. Man, she'll be really disappointed if the park won't let her in!

EDIT #2: After reading the FAQ and rules again, I'm willing to bet that backseat passengers are permitted as long as they have seat belts and are protected by a structurally sound SUV roof or Jeep rollbar. (In other words, no kids in the back up a pickup bed covered by a fiberglass camper shell.) I will call Badlands anyway, to see if I need to get my daughter's paperwork notarized before I arrive or if they have a notary public. It's bad enough I have to pay $15 for her as a passenger. I thought passengers were only $5...

Their map needs work. It's pretty useless. Looks like someone spilled coffee on it, grew mold on it, and then scanned it. :roll:

Can't they color code the actual trails? The Red, Green, and Orange Trail dots aren't telling me much. Are those the trailheads? Looks the like Orange Trail is the only trail with an entrance (at least it has the word "entrance"), and the Green Trail starts on a road. I'm confused.

Its not set in stone, BUT, I might be able to make this one folks. Im glad you all wanted to do a stocker run.
