I just started off-roading. I have a pre-lowered KJ with the original 235/70/16 GY SR-A and am looking for better tires, but don't have money at this time for a lift. Does anyone know what size might fit without a lift or rubbing, or is that just a pipe dream? 31" would be ideal.

245 70 16s are about as big as you can go unlifted. Some try and run 245 75s but will get quite a bit of rubbing if you go off road any at all. You will get 15 responses with 13 different tires recommended. I run the Firestone Destination ATs due to price, overall good ride, and get me around most places unless there is a lot of mud

What he said... I've got 245/65R17's Destination AT's on a prelowered with '05 Limited rims with no rubbing. I really like them. More tire than I've ever needed so far. I used to have 245/70R16's Cross Terrains on it with no rubbing with '02 Limited rims, but only had a slightly smoother ride and didn't have anywhere near as good of traction except on ice. They got through the ice storms here just as well as the AT's. If you need a little more height off roading, on a budget, you could do a clevis up front and a set of spring isolators in the rear.

BFG AT's 245/70/16 would be a good choice also or if you wanted a mud tire you could go with BFG M/T's in stock size
