I bought a generic-looking turbo timer off of a member here who sold his Jeep. It works great, all it does is keep 12V to Run and Run-Start in the steering column for 1, 3 or 5 minutes.

What's weird is that a few seconds after I kill the ignition, while the vehicle is idling, I hear the a/c kick on. The engine lugs and cold air starts coming out the vents. It happens whether I leave the blower on or not, and this is in panel-floor mode, not one of the modes that has the automatic a/c feature (which I have disabled anyway with the electrical tape trick). I haven't tested other modes yet, but it seems really weird to me.

Anyone have any ideas?

Are any turbo timer harnesses availible for the CRD? I would guess no considering the limited number of our vehicles.

Electrical gremlins can be nuts to track down.....

How much voltage is the ac compressor relay getting? if its lower than normal that would indicate a leak-age from your wiring the timer in.
(did that make sense?)

How did you have to install the timer that might give some clues to the problem. Also who makes this timer?

Manufacturer is unknown. It's a very plain looking grey box with 3 wires coming out the back. I connected it to ground, and a source that's always hot. The remaining wire was to be connected to pink/light green AND pink/yellow in the steering column. (Run-start and Run)

Trouble was there were several wires matching these descriptions. Two or three of each. I have a factory wiring diagram that gave me some clues they were 12 ga so I picked those and went with it. It also shows a 12 ga wire called run-acc that is pink/light green. Maybe that's what I'm tapped into.

Sounds like there is some "leakage" going on between the hot and the "run-acc," I know it sounds wierd, but I have seen similar things in the past.

I suppose finding another another wire to connect to might fix the problem.

Im constantly being corrected in here, one of the down sides to being stupid i guess, but hey, i cant fight my genetics so i may as well ask, learn somthing, and take my beating.... =) I was under the impression Diesel Exhaust Gas Temps did not get high enough to require a turbo timer under normal driving conditions, even abusive ones, with the exception of maybe pulling a trailer. Are you pulling a trailer a lot and want the convience of a turbo timer? Or am i wrong, again, and the CRD EGT gets uber hot and no one told me? Er did no one tell you that EGT on diesels are very low and dont usualy require turbo timers? Or is it just for the sake of playing it safe and treating your CRD with the upmost respect and love it diserves?

With humble reguards, and a sincere thankyou in advance,

o8k

I mostly run a timer turbo on petrol vehicles just to allow additional cooldown of the oil to occur before shutting off the car and letting the oil sit in the turbo and cook.

Read your manual. It specifies a cool down time for every situation.
