How can I get the interior lights to go off when I drive with the tailgate window open. I was taking a bunch of 8' 2x4s home the other day and I couldn't get the light to go off. fortunately, it was daylight so it wasn't annoying, but if I was driving at night, that could get really irritating.

Use a screwdriver to push down on the latch for the glass, this will trick the sensor into thinking its closed.

or you could tap the rear cargo light to make the lights go off

Don't forget to pull the handle to open the latch again before you close the lift glass.

My cargo light won't turn off if the rest of the interior lights are on...

I always just push the latch in with my finger... Like meh_kick said, be sure to pull the handle before trying to close the glass..

My inside lights will go off if I push the light in the cargo area.. You can also turn them off on the left side of the steering wheel by turning the dim feature all the way to dim/off.. I always keep mine off since I dont drive at night that much and I didnt see a use in the inside lights coming on during the day when I open a door. 8)

If this happens often you could always wire in a toggle switch to shut off the light. When in the on position it would act just like it normally does.

If i'm not mistaken you can just turn them all off with the dimmer switch. Im almost positive i've done it before. I've hauled lots of stuff home from lowes/ home depot with the back glass open.

This is the best way to do it especially if you have the EVIC computer thing cause it will beep at you like every 3miles telling you the tail gate is open.

I thought driving like that was bad for our springs (shock things on the rear glass)?? I just throw stuff up on my Yakima's and tighten down with a couple of straps. Looks cool that way with a couple of 4x8 sheets of ply or 2x4's! 8)

When the glass is open, its easier on the shocks b/c they are not compressed. When the window is closed, they are fully compressed which puts them under a load.

Think of it like a coil spring. When is on the Jeep, its holding up the weight of the Jeep. When you take it out and set in on the driveway, then its not holding anything up..

If you drive with the rear glass open, be sure you've got a front window down too. Carbon monoxide and all. Not good for your driving skills.
