EDIT #2: After reading the FAQ and rules again, I'm willing to bet that backseat passengers are permitted as long as they have seat belts and are protected by a structurally sound SUV roof or Jeep rollbar. (In other words, no kids in the back up a pickup bed covered by a fiberglass camper shell.) I will call Badlands anyway, to see if I need to get my daughter's paperwork notarized before I arrive or if they have a notary public. It's bad enough I have to pay $15 for her as a passenger. I thought passengers were only $5...

Their map needs work. It's pretty useless. Looks like someone spilled coffee on it, grew mold on it, and then scanned it. :roll:

Can't they color code the actual trails? The Red, Green, and Orange Trail dots aren't telling me much. Are those the trailheads? Looks the like Orange Trail is the only trail with an entrance (at least it has the word "entrance"), and the Green Trail starts on a road. I'm confused.

Yes that rule about roll bars only applys to something with a removable top. If your in a SUV you are fine. passengers are only 5 dollars. The 15 dollars is for if they are driving something like a quad. And almost every off road park ive been to has had pretty crappy maps but atleast it give you a idea. I think i remeber Don having his kid in the back seat last time we were out.

The last two times I've been there, they've never really checked anything about passengers, seating, seatbelts, tow pts....anything like that. You just pay for you and your riders, attach flag, they check to make sure you have paid and have the flag mounted, and you're good to go.

We are finally going to make it to a run!

I will probably be the least experienced guy out. So be nice to me :oops:

I also dont have a CB. If no one has one I can borrow I will try to dig one up somewhere.

I've got front tow hooks (maybe a front hitch by then) and a rear hitch, 2"X30' strap, and a D ring clevis.

Should I bring my old stock diff cover as a spare in case someone bashes theirs up? LMK

I dont think that will be necessary...we're definitley not going that hard, but its always better to be safe than sorry!

We are most definitley coming.... Had a small problem at jiffy lube this morning.. I will explain later. I am coming I-80 to 57 south if anyone wants to meet ... but more than likely i will just meet at the badlands at or around opening time... if im a little late please wait for us... please...

Im disappointed I didnt make it, I probably could have but I sort of got off to a bad start sunday morning:

I woke got up at 5:30 to get ready to head out only to find a flat tire on the jeep. :shock:

I took it off put some air in it and found the leak (screw) then went to get the plug kit. Thats when I realized I had just used the last plug on our vans tire last monday

The nearest place that I knew had more plugs, and that was open was 20 minutes in the wrong direction....I went back to bed.

I hope you all had fun, and post up a few pics for us to see.

Jeger,

We missed you yesterday. We waiting until 10 a.m. for everyone to arrive, then we hit the trail. (Most of us couldn't air down until around 9:30 anyway.) Next time!

FWIW, the wind made conditions pretty crappy at times because of all the dust blowing around. Didn't let up all day. The only break from it was when we pulled into the trees for lunch.

I had a great time. Thanks to Andy for leading, and to his father for taking pictures. Rob has some cool photos too. I'll have video and pictures posted online in a few days. Thanks to everyone for being patient with Amanda. She had a great time just playing in the dirt, throwing rocks, and really took a liking to Becky.

I apologize for not making it also....I had some last minute family plans come up and the parents pulled the plug on my offroading plans yesterday. Really sorry guys...I really looked forward to meeting some of you and doing some wheeling....next time

After finishing up I noticed the power steering was gone - mud or water or something must have gotten into the pump and screwed things up. About 90 miles from Attica (~5-10 minutes after I split from Andy and Jeepman60441) the electrical accessories died. Maybe a half hour after that I'm doing about 70 down the highway and the engine grinds down to an almost stop. Is your serpentime belt okay? I was thinking about that today. That could have been the source of the squeal you were hearing yesterday. Although I personally didn't hear it. Could be spiders in your ear, like that kid in Oregon. (See cnn.com.)

Keep us posted on the extent of your problem. Hopefully it's just your alternator.

I am amazed that I didn't get water in my air intake after hitting those mud holes like I did. I must have gone just slow enough to avoid the under-hood storm surge you and Jeepman experienced.

I went through a car wash today and will give the engine compartment a thorough inspection tonight before I take it in for an oil change next week. I will park on top of a lawn sprinkler after work to clean the undercarriage. I hate mud.
