With all the rain this weekend and the flooded streets.....crazy. I wanted mcdonalds so I went there to find...

Image

The water was about up to the hood and windows no water came in everything stayed dry. The only problem I have now is that my for light was cracked before and now is about half way full of water. My question is this water to deep to ford? and also should I worry about any fluids? The jeep never stalled and my friends said it was like being in a boat. The filter was dry and theres no noises. Im just wondering if theres something else to look into?

Wish I woulda had the snorkle there were parts of the town under 5-8 ft of water....people catching fish and canoeing around town. Crazy Stuff.

I had the first "yes" vote.
Just so you know I have no idea whatsoever if it's too deep.
But it's a poll, so I couldn't resist.

I would be stressed out for weeks listening for strange noises, imagining noises, going clinically insane if I went in water that deep, but I have no offroad experience at all, so I know nothing !!!

If my Jeep was paid off and I had some extra money laying around just in case, then that looks like fun !!!!!!

Well according to DC, the kj's fording limit is 20" 's i believe! So according to them yes it would be too deep. And without having your breather lines for your differential and transmission extended i would say it is too deep. Be carful going through the deep water, a LOST member sunk his kj not to long ago and it doesn't look like fun! But hey if you made it through then thats great. Make sure to check all fuilds and ensure no water has entered if you haven't already

i knew about how deep it was i just made sure i had my intake above the water....i knew where the streets were only one time was little hairy was when i pulled in the driveway slopes down and the hood dipped under for like a sec. Otherwise I think everything is ok. Just wondering if theres something I should look out for....?

If it were me, if it is still running fine with no malfunction lights, weird noises, or other funky quirks, then it was not too deep. However, you may want to consider checking or changing all of the driveline fluids in case some water got in there.

Yes , Try to limit it to the top of your bumper. that will give you some leadway incase of a hole or deop off.
When we do water .I always change the oil.front and rear ,and auto trans fluids and the liberty takes care of it self.

Based on what a dealer told me in NM during my adventure to Moab, any water that is high enough to reach the axle seals is too deep. They told me the seals are designed to hold fluid in, not keep it out. Cost me $1000 to get all my fluids changed after we went through water half that deep and about 30 ft wide in NM. They said the fluid was "milky" although I didn't see it myself. All fluids had been changed before we left for Moab.

O, and another $2000 to have my fried tranny rebuilt when I got home :?

The 20" limit stated by DC is obviously higher than the axle seals. So I'm going to sick my wife on them and see if we can get some of the money back :?

Probably deeper than it should have been, but I have fored water that deep before a few times. Plus I've done hundreds of water crossing up to about the bumper or tops of the tires before. I do have my breathers extended though. I check your fluids, though especially if you spend along time in the water.

Also water crossings are deceiving. They usually seem higher inside the Jeep than they really are. The bow wave make the water seem deeper.

Too deep. Some people will do anything for a quarter pounder with cheese.

I been wheeling in my KJ and have gone through water that was breaking over the hood like the bow of a ship, didn't have any problem. I didn't stop in the middle to go for a swim though. :)

Wouldnt be a bad idea to check all the fluids to see if they took any water. The front diff, tranny, and tcase are about as high as the bottom of the battery holder(One of them is mounted on it). Not sure where the rear diff vent goes.

I would think doing this often could wash a lot of the grease out of the wheelbearings and balljoints, tierods etc.

Sucking water into the intake is always the worst case though.

Too deep -
would have ingested water into the intake and killed your engine - hydrolock - rebuild time.

as it is - you need to change all driveline fluids - differentials, transmission, transfer case - even small amounts of water reduce the ability to lubricate and you'll kill bearings.

- Oh yeah if you got water on the computer - or wiring - you may start having ghosts - intermittant problems that come and go.

Jeeps are water resistant - not water proof - ask Mutt

It's insane to restrict your Jeep to axle seal depth (1 ft) water. I'd check the fluids and change if necessary. They'll cost half as much if you buy them yourself. The computer and intake are literally as high as they can be placed. I'd be more worried about the interior.
