I also think they are worried about errosion and effects of it downstream. Maybe even the creek bed itself and possible spawning habitat. You couldn't do this in the northwest in a salmon stream, so why be able to do it here? Catfish don't count? The only exception as I see it is if he was crossing the creek at a ford, where an established crossing as been used for years by tractors and such. Then, it is a crossing, but I don't know if he was doing this or just out there farming the creek.

This thread is becoming more ammusing all the time. The tread lightly phase applies to public land. In a way the water is public domain so I can see your point. Also if others see us not practicing tread lightly principles on our own land they assume we treat public land in the same manner. So I do see the point.

This is a case of a bad cop not trying to help but only punish. This case will be thrown out because the cop was wrong on two accounts (insurance and DL) and this really discredits his case against you. You do not need show proof of DL or Insurance on your own private land.

I think tread lightly can apply to many places besides just public land/water. As a land owner, you really aren't doing yourself any good by starting a place that will get washed away in a hundred years or so. He doesn't need a DL off road. That is correct but it depends on who the judge is on the public disfigurement part.

Get a lawyer. It will most likely be dismissed.

Just a shout out for law enforcement, most of my former soldiers were civilian officers and all of them good and fair. Even i've run into a nasty one or two but don't let that ruin your opinion.

Sorry this happened & hope you get justice (something that seems more & more elusive in our legal system).

First, I think this whole thing is pretty petty. I agree with you, well mostly. I don't agree with the 'picking of friends' comment. Read some threads here and you'll find people who have probably never met willing to drive somewhere to help with lifts and other mods. Yeah, some beer, food and lodging and most here probably would if it didn't conflict with current lives/schedules. We are all friends here. We just have different opinions and views. Some of the responses here that made you 'laugh' were only trying to get you to look at this from a different point of view. Sorry if you took offense to that. Some of your local community may question why an insurance agent didn't have current proof of insurance. You can answer that easliy, I am sure. However it is a different point of view. Did the county have it out for you that day? Probably. Did you throw gas on that fire? Only you can answer that. We are a world wide community that exists to have a good time. We will differ/argue sometimes but I would say that 99% of us would be there for any of us.

I'm pretty sarcastic at times so don't take offense to the "friends" comments. Furthermore, I am not usually a jerk. Quite honestly, the reason I started this thread was because I DID want input from ALL over, believe it or not so I shouldn't make any remarks about them when I get them. I do not want to offend so I am very sorry that I did. I sometimes write something and forget to re read it for editing and cooth. My mistake on this one. As you can tell, I'm new to this "chatting" thing, so bear with me if you will. I'll even out.
I also want ya'll to know, I'm a nice guy, a loyal friend and I do care about the environment in general. Unfortunately for many, I do kill animals (usually for the meat, but not out of necessity) and I do 4 wheel (most of the time for fun, but sometimes because I have to). I get pissed though when MY rights and freedoms are in jeapardy. For example, I don't wheel on other people's land because it's not mine. On the other hand, if I go buy a piece of land to do just that, someone has the right to come and tell me I can't do that??!! Again, I'm not growing pot, for crying out loud!! I'm "erating" the soil!! That's all I probably should have said in the first place.
One more thing: earlier someone said I should get into office somewhere and MAKE a difference. Well, that's true, sort of. If I take time to get in an elected office, my family suffers by not having daddy around. Then that becomes a bigger problem than whatever I got in office to solve. Isn't that why we VOTE for people to carry out our wishes about things like wheeling, hunting, carrying a concealed weapon for our safety, etc,? A little off topic, I know, but I hope you see my point.
Thanks. Ya'll are pretty cool folks.

I suppose when the monsoons come here in AZ I should stop driving down the main roads when the water floods them... as they are now protected streams. Just think... I might disrupt the breeding patterns of the inner city misquitoe. But it would be ok to canoe down the flooded street, as that is hippie friendly and makes us at one with our great and holy earth mother. Do canoes have to stop at red lights? Maybe I could put wheels on a boat and get to work faster by not stopping at red lights. Since the road is really just a seasonal stream that was oppressed by the evils of asphalt and all... I should have right of way.

Nope. Not a recognized waterway. Do what feels froggy. Canoes have the right of way. They don't have brakes. Careful you don't get washed away and never heard of again in those flash floods. When we were in Gallup, there was a local watering hole a few miles out into the rez and "locals" would go out in the gulleys to sleep it off. Rain started and they were never seen again.

Yep, you are right. But how many of them follow the CYB principle? CYB=CoverYourButt.

No worries!
