see also this one about the new fun things they are doing in illinois...

http://www.dot.state.il.us/press/r033005.html

Quote:

Under enhanced penalties passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Gov. Rod Blagojevich last year, first-time work zone speeders, including those caught on camera, will be hit with a fine of $375, with $125 of that sum going to pay off-duty State Troopers to provide added enforcement in construction or maintenance zones. Two-time offenders are subject to a $1,000 fine, including a $250 surcharge to hire Troopers, and the loss of their license for 90 days....

Photo enforcement vans will be equipped with cameras designed to record a clear image of the vehicle and driver, it’s speed, and registration plate. The registered owner will not be liable if someone else is driving the vehicle...

Photo speed enforcement will be taking place at various construction zones around the state, including on the Dan Ryan and Kingery projects and Tollway projects in the Chicago area as well as various downstate projects...

“Trooper in a Truck”—allowing state police to covertly enforce speed limits, out-of-uniform and in IDOT trucks. ...

i want to see a wrecker chase down a speeder

Heres another:

New Jersey Police Retaliate Against Ticket Blitz Expose

New Jersey state police are being investigated for intimidating radio talk show hosts who exposed a planned ticket blitz.

The New Jersey Attorney General on Friday launched an investigation into state police retaliation against a pair of radio talk show hosts who had exposed an upcoming traffic ticket blitz. State Troopers Fraternal Association president David Jones, an active duty state policeman, broadcast the home address and license plate number of Craig Carton at a news conference.

Jones was incensed that Carton and co-host Ray Rossi, afternoon drivetime hosts known as "The Jersey Guys" on 101.5 FM, discussed the "Crush in May and Cruise in June" program on May 1. Carton had received an email that contained plans for the program from a private web forum limited only to state troopers.

The troopers discussed "crushing" members of the public with speeding tickets for driving 1 MPH over the speed limit during May and then "cruising" at slow speeds on the freeway in June to display their power over motorists. The program was designed to get back at members of the public who criticized the state trooper who on April 12 crashed the official SUV that had been escorting Governor Jon S. Corzine (D) at 91 MPH.

The state police superintendent ordered Jones to cancel his plans to publicize the personal information of Rossi and any other radio station staff.

So radar detectors still work, I don't see what the big deal is. Also watchout for Yellow frieght trucks with 5 cameras.

Wow. Reading that excerpt on Jersy police pulling over speeders who do 1 mph over and then trying to intimidate the radio hosts who exposed them... sounds more like Nazi Germany than America. Glad I live in AZ, Crazy... people are out of their minds. This is what happens when you live in a police state like NJ or Chicago that disarms its subjects (formerly citizens).

Years ago (back in the 80's) when I was still back home in West Chester, Pa (and Bam was just a little kid down the street) the state cops would sit in PennDOT trucks along the Rt202 corridor. You'd see the truck sitting in an odd spot :? ...only to realize it was a trooper as you went by  ....then a little further down the road...usually around a bend...another trooper in a regular car would pull the suckers over.

I wish they would invest as much time, money and effort into flushing out the gang members, drug dealers and sex offenders in Cali. (and elsewhere) as they do in stopping people from driving 5 mph over the speed limit.

Not that I agree with the electronic ticketing, I feel that you should have to be handed your ticket by an officer. However in the last 10 years of working on and in streets part of the time, it makes me angry when people do not respect the barricades and road signs, as they are there to save My life, or someone else's that is working there. I think a more fitting punishment would be to force the offenders to work on that roadway for a couple days so that they can see how closely they are operating their deadly weapon.

I can agree with you on slowing down through construction areas, but if you're rolling down the highway and you're doing 5 mph over and get pulled over out of a construction zone...

Like JJ said, it seems we have more to worry about than minor traffic violations like speeding. If you're speeding through a town or construction zone, thats one thing, you deserve the ticket. But if you're running a bit over on a 2 lane highway....c'mon.

yea, notice my gripe was about construction zones, the other thing I absolutely HATE is when people run a red light in front of a cop and nothing happens, you know when its green for the cop.
