I was reading a report in a newspaper on the 2008 Patriot. It said the off road package included a "Raised Height" for better off road use. It sounds like it is lifted. Has anyone heard anything about how much it is "raised?

Terry

I think they raised it an inch, not sure how, but it is part of the offroad package that also includes the freedom drive 2 and some skid plates, and they say raised breather tubes etc.

The Trail Rated version of the Patriot gets longer springs and revised shocks (among a lot of other things) to improve the ground clearance and allow it to traverse a lot of surfaces that most other small SUV's wouldn't be able to.

The package is called Freedom Drive 2 [FDII to the MK folks] and is currently pretty hard to come by on dealer lots.

Edit: Should have read Jeger's post before adding mine.

So to make this more usefull: FDII adds the following

1) CVT transmission with low range crawl ratio
2) Torque distribution to enhance traction off road
3) Brake assisted HDC
4) Skid plates
5) Tow Hooks
6) Trail Rated badge (included)

I suppose it is worth mentioning that the FDII package gets somewhere in the neighborhood of 23/24MPG in the city and 25/26MPG on the expressway. The standard Patriot 4x4 gets 25/26 City and 28/29 Highway.

I read that you gain an extra inch if you go with the 17" rims.

Where did you see that at? (only asking in case it's true)

The FWD and standard 4x4 are considered to have a GND clearance of 8" and then I was under the impression that only the FDII's got 9" of clearance...

They were afraid that it wouldnt get the trail rated badge so they had to do all of that. There was an article on it awhile back.

0-60MPH is around 10 seconds with the CVT from what I remember...

I like the Patriot but the Liberty is paid for and I don't know if I want a new car payment for the little change

10sec really isnt that bad for a 4 banger. I believe our corolla is 12sec or so 0-60.

So which do you think has more clearance, stock Liberty or stock trail-rated Patriot?
Is the stock Liberty more capable than the trail-rated Patriot?

not that bad? It's gotta be pretty heavy to get that timing? I mean what is the weight ratio for weight/banger?

edit: 3300lbs, 4 cylinder, 0-60 in 10 sec is not that bad. It is darn heavy!
I wonder what new RAV4 does in 0-60, it is almost identical (weight/engine/cylinder-wise)

Has anyone driven the Patriot yet with the cvt? my uvt has a cvt  . A patriot passed me on the road yesterday. The tires on this one looked like they were 14", looked small. It was probably a base package. It's like a baby commander.

I saw at Trail Rated Patriot the other day and it looked pretty good. It looked a lot better than the Compass. It seemed to have all the options but it did seem all that high.

That is a trick question
if both have factory skids and 4wd then I would think the KJ

Look at it like this the Patriot is nothing more than a car with big tires kind of like a subru or something like that
The KJ has a real transfer case sure it is unibody but I know how the KJ compares to a TJ and I also know the limits of a stock KJ

I would say that if you never plan to do any "trail rides" but rather stick to the dirt 2 tracks you would be ok in a Patriot
The trails that we run and consider "stock" trails would be to much for a Patriot You may be able to get away with a few VERY easy trails but after a while it would be toast

I know that if you put a KJ through 1/2 of what I put my TJ through.......
Lets just say it would not look so good it may run fine but it would look like it was hurtin ,I am "rough" though

I'm pretty sure the Patriot will handle just as much stuff as a stock KJ would. Expeditions West tested one and they were very impressed with it.

Stock Patriot handle as much as a stock Kj???? that I want to see. A lot of differences between the two, from what I can read. Now maybe if you take the Patriot body and bolt it on a TJ frame, wait maybe thats what they should do anyways

I looked at a Trail Rated version of the Patriot earlier this week at the dealer where I bought my JK.

Sticker price was $23K and some change. I didn't drive it, but I liked the looks of it.
