I am using the Series 3000 HDD 5W30 but after some more research the AMO 10W40 from Amsoil looks like a great oil for our application. It has a high TBN (Total base number) of 12.1 (HDD is 12.2), A Pour Point of -43F (HDD is -58F) and a Viscosity Index of 178 (HDD is 174). All in all for a little cheaper price the AMO 10W40 would be a great choice.

The only thing that I'm a little concerned with about using that oil is the 10w spec.

The pour point is so close that unless you were in the Artic Circle...it will not be revelant

Darby is right. Unless you are experiencing severe cold (well below anything in the continental 48 states) the 10w40 Amsoil would work.

The 5w30 HDD has been used successfully in Class 8 trucks with 14L engines and would work in the CRD Libby. The 5w30 would give you better fuel efficiency than the 10w40. Both have a 12+ TBN package.

Amsoil is recommending these for CRD use, and if you should blow a turbo because of their recommendation, their warranty is effective for you. Your call. It is what you feel comfortable with. There is ample testing that shows the 5w30 HDD outperforms the competition, including Mobil 1. If it will hold up for over 300K on ONE oil change in 100 Kenworth trucks pulling flatbeds throughout the 48 states (Jeff Foster Trucking test results), it will work in the CRD.

Anyway, go with what your gut tells you. Live within your comfort zone. No one will criticize you.

i use amsoil 10w40 diesel in my other car and on my next change will be using it in my liberty, replacing the mobil one that is no longer fully synthetic like they are still lying about.

im very happy with the amsoil 10w40 diesel.

Does anyone have a link to a site with oil comparisons which are non biased (ie not listed by amsoil, mobil, redline etc,,)? perhaps a consumer reports type thing? :?:
