RAY: It does absolutely nothing to increase your gas mileage. We spoke to a fuel-systems engineer who works for one of the major oil companies.

'nuff said!
Never mind all the real-world testing that's been done with positive results by people just like you and me (Did you detect the sarcasm?). Apparently their research and findings doesn't count if they don't work for "one of the major oil companies".

Then it wouldn't be my jeep anymore? It would be like the other 3000 here :P in town!

Sorry, I don't mean to offend. Certainly experimentation of smart individuals is a valid way to make informed decisions.

While I am inclined to beleive that there may be some improvement in fuel economy, I am still pretty concerned with how acetone will affect my engine in the long term. Will my fuel system be gradually dissolved and degraded? Replacing all those hoses, filters and pumps would quickly eat up all my cost savings from a 2-4 mpg improvement that might save $200-400 a year.

Sorry, no I don't unreservedly accept anecdotal advice given on the web by anonymous people. There are a lot of hoaxes out there and accepting the word of some guy on the web could be considered careless. If I am wrong, I am wasting a couple of hundred bucks a year.

I am unhappy that I have to get 17-19 mpg to be able to have a capable off road vehicle that can take me where I want, but I am prepared to accept the consequences. Our other family car gets 40-50 mpg. Our family average still looks pretty good.

Another option to offset our impact on the environment is http://www.terrapass.com/.

Otherwise, I pay the price at the pump, drive the fuel efficent car when possible, and suck it up.

2.5oz per 10 gallon is only like .03%, it will have no effect whatsoever on any parts.
