Has anyone ever heard of someone cutting the roof off of a KJ, right behind the front seat? I had a Chevy wagon once that I did that to and it was pretty nice. I closed in the front to make it into a cab.

Pretty sure it has been done. There are pictures around. Keep in mind that the KJ is built much differently than your Chevy (which was likely body on frame). You have to be real careful with the unibody construction...cutting away the roof seriously degrades the strength of the entire vehicle. You'd have to weld in a roll cage and extra supports to keep things crash worthy...basically do not attempt unless you are an engineer.

That does look sharp! I think you would be right about a roll bar. I would want one anyways...just in case it rolled over. I'll keep this idea in the back of my head awhile :D

I saw that same PT Cruiser at the show also, If I remember right they did some kind of frame underneath of it to make sure it was safe to drive. We cut the roof off of a 94 Cherokee that a friend had rolled. Tried to convince him that a roll bar / frame tie in was needed to make it stronger but he refused, so after a couple of weeks you couldnt open the doors anymore and it basically started to "fold up " in the middle  looked funny if nothing else

Yeah it is complicated but I am sure it could be done. I see alot of GC with the top cut off behind the back seats making a mini bed. It actually looks pretty good because the GC has a high belt line and low roof line. I think the Libby would look funny because of it's low belt line and high roof line.
