My wife and I just completed a short roadtrip(1700 miles round trip) and my butt has come to the conclusion that the seats in the KJ need to be replaced. They're fine for short trips and around town but roadtrips are painfull. Has anyone replaced their seats?

They are definitely lacking in the comfort department AND the cloth seats stain/spot terribly with even a drop of water...ridiculous. I will say that adding the Mopar Neoprene Seat Covers makes them more comfortable...the extra thickness seems to help a bit.

I would like to fit some suspension seats in place of the fronts. They would probably be very comfortable. ASFIR sells them...if you want to get an idea...but I am sure others make them too.

I think most aftermarket seats will fit physically - they're fairly standard 4 bolt pattern -

What I'm concerned about is the passenger seat sensor - I don't know if you can take the current one out and reuse it - or if you have to get something specifically for a KJ, or even if you can disconnect it - it's for the Airbag so that's probably not a good idea.

Here you go,aftermarket seat brackets and racestyle bucket seats(many to choose from) which are really comfiy. The rest of the seats and 3/4 point harnesses. These are on my very long list of things to do to my KJ.

One rail of the front seats is welded/rivited to the rail, you would need a new slider from the above post.

The other Option would be to have a shop repad the stock seat for better comfort. Not that hard for a good shop to do. Much cheaper I would assume.

Thanks for the replies. We love the CRD but the seats aren't comfortable. Maybe it's just me but the seats in my 02 felt better. I didn't even think of having the stock seats rebuilt. I'm going to try and find a shop to do this. I'll post the cost and how extensive the rebuild is. Thanks again.

I used to go to a local auto restoration shop. The guy would take motorcycle seats for my dealership, remove the stock seat cover and either cut out, add or replace the padding with better quality foam. He would then restretch the stock material over the foam and you could never tell anything was done. Used to cost well under $100 per seat. Check in your area for a resto shop. Don't hit up the new, shiny automarts but the local places that have been on the side street for years. Usually look for an old gnarly guy. They do the best work!

I must be pretty easy to please. I love the seats in my 02'!! The shape more than anything is the most appealing to me. They may lack a bit of foam in certain areas and can get a bit hard...but they seem like some of the nicer seats availiable in most vehicles IMO. It's just me though... :?

The seats in my 03 feel alright but not as good in comparison to a Grand cherokee's leather seats those are soo much more comfortable.

Drove my CRD Limited from Sonora, CA to Anchorage last fall. Girlfriend and I thought we'd need a chiropracter by the time we got to eastern Washington. Flat out suffered by the time we got through British Columbia. IMHO, the seats suck......my CRD is the 32nd car I've owned and driven more than 1000 miles in a single day. I'm currently planning an upgrade through the guys in the following link.

People that got the cloth seats got shafted as far as padding, comfort actually go. Every magazine review I ever read about the Liberty stated that the cloth seats were brutal on long trips.

I've spend 4+ hours in the front seat of my Liberty and never had any problems with fatigue... So maybe a simple solution to those of you with cloth seats would be to upgrade to the leather units.

I have cloth seats('02 limited) and have no problems with them and I have a messed up lower back. The longest trip made was 26 hours strait with no discomfort at all.Still going to Corbaeu seats for the 4-point harnesses.

you can ebay "racing seats" and get a pair of half decent seats for ~ $300 including shipping. Just a thought

You might want to also consider replacing your seats with ones from a later model or even from another Jeep model. I recently made a 3,000 mile trip in my 2007 Limited and found the seat quite comfortable. I couldn't have done it in my old Dakota. Those seats had my butt aching after the first 100 miles.

The "re-pad" idea sounds like a good idea too.

So lets say I can find a set of leather Libby seats in a junkyard. Are the mounts the same for all production years?
