The CRD is making some awful noise similar to something caught in the blower motor fan for lack of a better analogy. Opening the hood the sound is very obviously coming from whatever diesel bit directly before the intake where the rubber intake hose connects. The sound comes on with the ignition and runs for about 10sec after the engine is off. Any help for what this part is and how critical it is for the Jeep running through the weekend is greatly appreciated. The Jeep (and its owner) needs out of the 'burbs this weekend!

Is the noise maker on the driver's side? If so, it is probably the EGR flow control valve. You can unplug it until you can get it fixed.

yep, driver's side leading straight into the intake manifold. sounds like a little chain saw now. Unplug the wiring and should run fine through the weekend?

If you don't have one already, unplugging the FCV will cause a Check Engine Light. It should run fine with the valve unplugged. You might want to take the intake hose loose and look to make sure the valve is in the open position. They can fail open or closed, but open seems to be more common. If it was full closed the engine wouldn't run. Partially closed would make it run poorly.

Thanks a ton for the advice. The engine seems to be running ok, not great but ok. Having use of it allows me to bring the mt bike along this weekend which is a great plus. Really appreciate the help.

Matt

If it isn't running GREAT, then that might not be all of your problems. In fact, with the valve off and OPEN, it should run really really nicely. Did you take the hose off and look in there? Might be partially closed.
