Allright I got my tax check back and it's time for some upgrades. I am running a completly stock KJ (except for 245 Revo's). Money is definitley a consideration. My thought is rock rails and skids first. Here are my questions. What does the All J's Superskid cover...Do you still need a engine front suspension skid? Are the ones on Jeep Parts People just the OEM for Renegades? And if so will they get you from point A, over a pass, to point B? Does the rusty's engine skid double as the front suspension skid? Same kind of questions about the rails. Next years tax check is for the lift and 31's.
:)

Rock rails, fuel tank skid, trasfercase skid, and the engine skid first. Those are the essentials, any damage to those componets will run you into the thousands for repair, except the fuel tank but you don't wanna be leakin an explosive liquid all over the place. The engine skid covers front diff, part of the oil pan and the steering stuff.

Get a skid row for the front. It has better clearence and is thicker than OEM skid. Once my OEM front skid is toasted I am going to get the skid row one.

Need the rocker rails cause you do the rocker panel you won't be able to open/close doors and the repair bill will make your eyes water.

The engine/tranny skids, either skid rows which I have or all j's, (superbeefy but harder to install) cover the rest of the oil pan, the tranny, tranny oil pan and the front of the transfer case.

It bolts under the engine skid and over the transfercase skid so you have solid skids till you are behind the transfercase.

I like this plate as well for keeping brush and rocks away from the boots on my drive axles.

www.skidplates.com is for the skid row plates. They got a buch of pics so you can see what is covered

As far as the rails I have RRO supersliders. I bought them first before I knew buying from RRO is risky business.

I like the rocklizard superslinks they look really beefy. Anyone who owns these? Sweet? OK? Pain the but to put on?

I thought I read a few weeks ago that Skidrow was going to discontinue the front engine skid due to lack of demand. I don't recall who posted it but they were trying to drum up some support for the skid so they could purchase one also.

Ozltd, on here is currently Fabin up a front skid as we speak. Laser cut out of 4mm steel I think he said, I've seen the design and mock-ups and it will sit up nice and high to keep as much valuable ground clearance as possible, and you'd be able to jack the car up from it, it's going to be that strong. You should PM him about it. Don't know anything about final costs or timeframe, but, we are in Australia...sooo.

Some of the harder wheelers may beg to differ with me on this...but many on here have gotten along with the Mopar skids alright...or atleast for some time. If you're wheeling that hard...than I suppose money isn't really a deciding factor knowing that something could fail from the abuse your putting it through....hence you would buy the more expensive stuff since you know the consequences.

But IMO...since you're working on a budget (sorta like myself except my dough goes to insurance and vehicle payments so there's little if any to spend on mods) than I would suggest the Mopar skids. My KJ came with a mopar engine skid and its takin a few minor hits in the couple times I've been wheeling and done alright. Mine is one of the earlier ones produced since mine is an 02' so its pretty thick.

You have an 05' so you are lucky enough that Mopar still makes full skids for yours, unlike us unlucky 02'-04' guys that cant buy them because mopar discontinued skids for our Jeeps.

I say for the price....go for the Mopar...use them, beat them up...they will serve their purpose. If you out do them, sell em'/trash em' and get some aftermarket. If not, run them and be happy. Many guys that wheel their Libs regularly use them and while they got some bends :) , their still running strong. When in doubt, use the BFH.

Check out Rock Lizard Fabrications for the sliders like someone else suggested. All J's has some nice ones too....take a look at either. I hope to have some skinks on my Jeep in the near future.

I have the mopar engine, trans, and gas skid, and while the Holister hills did leave some good dings, and carved at them a bit, they did their job and thats that. I want to get the skid row tranny skid only to fully cover up, but don't need it right now. Mopar is not as tuff as after market, but the prices and weight savings, they are find. But to restate, if you plan on wheeling the hell out of your KJ and possibly beating the crap out of it, then maybe you want stuff heavier than mopar.

Stephen
