Help! My EVIC isn't acting right....

Installed an evic the other day, and just got the ambient temperature sensor for it from Autozone.

Its an Evic from a 2002 GC into my 2003 Liberty...

The part numbers for this temp sensor for the 2002-2003 Liberty AND GC are the same

And I've restarted it several times, and just disconnected the battery, and she still says 75 degrees.....

AND I just dis/reconnected the EVIC. Still good ole 75 degrees......................

what gives?

Bad sensor,bad EVIC,or it needs to be calibrated.look in the owner manual(need the one for the vehicle the evic came out of most likely) and it will say how to calibrate it if you can.Plus the temp sensor's/EVIC's are not very accurate anyway since the temp sensor is ussually mounted in front of the raditor(not sure where it is on a KJ).

Mine read 75 degrees shortly after installation as well. After driving around a while, it got a temperature reading and has been working properly since. Try that. Wish I had known about Autozone carrying the sensor.

Really? For how long?

btw it was $22 including tax, and its the same as OEM.

The EVIC will always display the temp that was read when you were last driving for the first 5 minutes or so. I guess from the factory it reads 75. You will find this happens all of the time. It will be 70F when you go into the store. Two hours later, you drive it again (and the temp has dropped 20F) and it will read the "before" temp for a while. I also found that if you are traveling less than 20 MPH for extended periods of time (like crawling on a trail), the temp will not change either.

I used to think this was a problem but then I realized why DC did this. If the car is is not moving, the temp is not going to be accurate. They are assuming that when you shut the car off, that the engine is probably hot. Because no outside air is flowing past the sensor, the heat from the engine will cause the gauge to read a temp that is totally out of whack. So, if the car has been off or it is traveling less than 20MPH, the EVIC waits until there is enough ambient air passing by the temp gauge before posting the temp to give you an accurate ambient air reading.

Hmm. Well I guess that makes sense. Just a little disconcerting. You go through all the research, find the perfect EVIC, get it wired in, and want it to work, and then something like that pops up. Will keep posted

It takes some time before getting new readings after you start the KJ. It is weird. Some days, it changes quickly after starting the KJ and driving and other times, it is five minutes before it registers new temps after I start the KJ and start driving.

Just a quirk of the system

Alright....now its working. To a drive around town and a few minutes went by then started giving a good reading. Awesome. Thanks for the help guys. It is weird that it would stall like that for so long, but oh well. Works now
