I saved about 8,000 dollars off sticker and put down 3000, so the price did it for me...brand new jeep liberty for just about 15000

A tiny little bit of background here, i work in recycling collections for OTC of Burlington county. I was out in Mansfield when i found a large booklet for the, then new, Liberty in the back of the compactor. I decided to take it home and see what this thing was all about. fast forward to June 02 when my 92 Plymouth Acclaim wouldn't pass inspection (nox emissions). I want to replace the EGR valve but my dad had me replacing everything else on it instead  . It did no good, so i was about to go that route when my dad told me the engine, a mitsu 3.0 V6, could blow up at any moment so it was best if i just bought a new car instead. I refused to go into debt for a new car and we fought over this for 2 weeks. Ultimately, i gave in and said i wanted a new Liberty, which would make me the first person in the immediate family to own a Jeep (we are a Mopar clan). My Dad and i went up to Village Chrysler Jeep in Pemberton where i got a salsa red 02 liberty sport, V6, 4X4. My dad cringed on the price and tried to talk me down to a 4 banger, with stick and rear drive only which i refused to even look at. i took home the libby I wanted and the next day went out 4 wheelin' in the Rancocas State Park and i've been hooked ever since. I'm now the confirmed Jeep Nut in the family. My sis is looking to replace her Chrysler T&C minivan and i'm trying to talk her into the 08 KK Libby (for hauling her 3 kids).

Sierra roadends at 10000 feet, and the ability to get there at 90 mph on the interstate. Ability to take either bikes inside, or the length of my sleeping bag for midnight arrivals at the trailhead. 4x4 bang for the buck at the 22K price point.

After I'd got rid of my '92 YJ (well over 330,000 miles on it), I'd had a small pick up for a year. Needed more room, still wanted comfort, so I went with the KJ. Kept it 3 years, but then decided to go back to a Wrangler....

wanted a Jeep since i was a kid. Growing up...my step-dad had a couple of wranglers..he drove those things
into the ground traveling 120+ miles every day (round trip) to work for many years. i really just liked the KJ
when it first came out. i thought it was the best balance between on road - off road capability with a little bit
of class thrown in as well. absolutely love it

A few years ago, a week-long hiking/camping trip across the High Uinta mountains was cut short (on the first day) by a knee injury. So, my buddy and I borrowed a ’96 4Runner with 89K miles on the clock and spent the rest of our vacation pounding down un-maintained roads to alpine lakes.

It was a great trip and it convinced me that I wanted a “real” SUV for my next vehicle; one that had legitimate 4x4 capability as well as a decent road machine and family hauler.

The problem with the 4Runner is that the newly redesigned model porked-out. It was also about $10-grand more than I wanted to pay (new). The only other affordable SUV on the market that also fit a family taxi was the first generation Xterra, which was grossly underpowered.

I was suspicious of Jeep’s reliability record, but based on what I read about the Liberty over its first four model years indicated that the company really upped its game.

The KJ fit the bill: inexpensive, legitimate 4x4, practical station wagon. Made in America made the purchase even better. So far, no regrets.

- Affordable
- Real transfer case
- Manual trans (NV3550!!)
- It's a Jeep
- Made in Toledo, Ohio, USA
- Personality
- Easy to lift and wheel but a good DD too!

Wanted a Wrangler but needed something for the long commute through summer and harsh winter months. The KJ fits.

My 1st car was a 90 Subaru Legacy Wagon.

I became mine in 97 with 140k on the odo. I drove the wheels off that thing going all over Northern CA and Southern OR for work and school. Over the next few years I purchased a new car by the pound, replacing CV joints, engine, transmission and a host of other odds and ends.

In Nov of 04 I stopped at a crosswalk to let a ped go by and I was rear ended hard. The guy who nailed me was doing at least 25mpg as his airbags deployed. Subaru was totaled.

I then got a hand me down 2WD Mazda 2300. I hated that truck, no cruise, cramped interior and awful in the snow with no weight on the drives.

I live in Reno and frequently go over Donner to visit friends and family in Sacramento.

Once I could afford a new car I looked far and wide.

I wanted an AWD/4WD pickup, SUV or station wagon with good fuel economy. Ford only makes a 4WD Ranger with the 2.3L for Fleet Customers.

Subaru makes good AWD wagons but their drivetrain is getting long in the tooth, their current 2.5L engine gets worse mileage than the 2.2L in my 1st gen Subaru.

Toyota makes an AWD version of the Matrix but its gutless and a bit pricey for what it is. It also had no range as the gas tank is smaller while the mileage worse relative to the regular FWD version. I suspect they price the AWD Matrix high to steer people towards their more profitable SUVs.

I looked at the CRD Diesel but at the time the dealer on had a $32k limited on the lot. I liked it but it was $10k over my budget

When I finally had could afford a new(er) car DC was having their "Oh S$%^ we made too many gas guzzlers" fire sale last summer. My local stealership got 6 CRD Sport models in and they were sitting on the lot. I had to haggle for 2 weeks but between the "Employee Pricing" and getting the to meet me on my trade-in I got a smokin' deal.

Brought me to the KJ:

-looks.
-abllity to tackle extreme conditions up here in the Northern Highlands.
-rare, there are not many around
-inside space and outside compactness.
-round retro styling.
- 2.5 CRD engine
-oh and did I mentioned the looks?
