Installed the new OME longtravel shocks & Daystar bumpstops, here are some pics & a few words of how I went about it.

First of all pulled the N132's out, compared the orginals with the N132 & N132L. There is about 50mm difference between the stock & N132L

I used a right angle adapter on a regular drill to make the holes in the spring seats, worked pretty well for $14.00 at the hardware store.
Image

After tapping the holes (3/8th course thread) I screwed in the Daystar bumpstops then also put on the supplied nylock nut on the bottom between the axle & the spring seat.

Wasnt too difficult but you need a socket set bigger than a 3/8 drive, couldnt get the torque to undo the shock bolts, luckily my dad has got a 1/2 drive with a torque amplifier (aka a long bar) & got them off.

I used axle stands to hold the car up while I was working on it & a trolley jack to raise & lower the axle as required. Both tyres that I removed were under the car just in case the axle stands failed just so I wouldnt be completely flat in case of the worst.

Thing is tho, is there any extra travel with the longer shock, appears that the boomerang limits it as well as the shock, I had both shocks off & tried to drop the axle to take the springs out but the boomerang stopped it & couldnt take the spring out unless I had a compressor.

If you disconnect the rear swaybar, the axle will drop easier to remove the springs.

the "boomerang" is NOT the swaybar... the swaybar is the bent metel "tube" that is attached to the lower control arms with 2 bolts on each side...

the real benefit of longer shocks comes when you're flexing the rear suspension (one tire up and one drooping down).... you'll see the benefit of the longer travel then... you can't really tell that while it's on jack-stands and both sides drooping.

Mark

edit: (flexing like my avatar is when you see benefit of longer shocks)

edit2:

only if you raise the other wheel up.

The "boomerang" is basically your upper control arm. Where TJ's have upper control arms on both sides of the axle, the KJ just has the one attached to the top of the diff housing. The rear suspension of the Liberty is similar to what the TJ guys do when they upgrade to a triangulated four link setup. It eliminates the need for a rear track bar which keeps the axle centered under the vehicle.

This sounds like a very positive result palla, if they are the same ones CRDSTU has you'll be mighty impressed, the flexing he has is amazing, and if you remove your front swaybar as well for off road, there should be no stopping you... :D

The Trilink in the back of the KJ is a brilliant setup.

WOW! Those things are ALOT longer than stock! Thanks so much for getting a pic of all 3 together.. Gives everyone a good idea on how much longer they are.

If I were you, I would of jacked the axle up some without the shock, daystar bumpstop, and the spring being on the Jeep. See how far the axle can go up before the shock bottoms out by bolting the top of the shock in then compressing the shock by hand to see if you can line the hole up on the axle.

The reason I say this is, I do no believe you need all of the extended bumpstop. It limits up travel which kinda cancels out even putting the longer shocks on.

I could be totally wrong on that theory though. I woudlnt know if you could cut the bumpstop down without seeing if all of it is truly needed.

If he's running bigger tires 245/75-265/75, the bumpstops will help with not over stuffing.

Just watch your rear brake lines,I had problems with my rear line with the regular OME N132's.At full droop my rear line was forced to stretch about a 1/2",had to make a relocation braket to give it more droop. Now I have the braided lines from Al which are longer then the stock one.

tjkj do you have any pics of your home made bum stops. I am having some issues with over stuffing my rears. I do not need a ton of flex because I use my kj to hunt and to occasionally off road. But i would still like to be able to crawl thru some ditches without worrying if I am going to rip off my rear fenders.

Running 255/70/16 & at full stuff I cant open my rear doors, tyre holds flare on door to the wheel arch. So it now should be all good, unless I tear my rear brake lines out of course. Ill have to check that out before I go bush next.

That's great Palla, looking forward to seeing some flex shots. Did you change your shocks for off road reasons only or was it time to change the shocks as they were gettnig a bit long in the tooth.

Yeah cant wait to go out for a run, ill get some flexi shots. I changed the shocks for opportunistic reasons. A fellow KJer who imported them sold his KJ before they arrived so I grabbed them off him. The recovered ones are in the for sale section on another forum. Only 20K Km done & are in perfect working order.

Well I got the chance to take the KJ out for a bit of a drive today. A lovely spot in the hills, a place called Bells Rapids.

Image

Not quite CRDSTU (OZLTD on here) flex but I recon its more than the standard OME.

Bumpstops getting to know each other a little better:)

Reasonable droop

Now I can open my rear doors at full stuff, the daystar bumpstop works well. I didnt get a shot of the stuffed wheel.

AWESOME pics! I can tell a hugr difference in flex!

How did you do on the ramp? What was your score? Did you happen to try it with the old shocks and or with the front sway bar off?

Ok score just came in, 386 with all swaybars on. Didnt have the old shocks to try with. Would have been better with front off as wheel would have tucked better up front.
