god that would be sweet, i could see it now, gimme an old aviators helmet to wear with it! why dont we talk to some tube door manufacturers first before we get into customization...lets find the price for Cherokee tube doors and ask someone what it would take to make them...shouldnt be more than 300 for a pair i would think....ill do some looking after dinner tonight

ok so i found some simple tube doors that are being produced for the new 4-door JK and they look pretty cool and reasonably priced...218 per pair!
Here's a pic for reference....
Image
what do ya think?

i emailed them to see if it was at all possible for them and mentioned i was apart of the LOST KJs community...we'll see what the reply is!

Here's what i wrote

Hello, I am part of an international Jeep Liberty and jeep enthusiasts forum and several board members have been throwing around the idea of taking the doors off of our Jeep Libertys, and we were curious as to the possibility of some tubed doors like product number 90773 and 90774 for the 07' JK unlimiteds but for Jeep Libertys in this case...would this be possible and feasible for you to produce? any reply would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Here's where i found the pricing on these particular doors!

Tube doors with canvas panel lowers and clear plastic uppers...the Wrangler guys would be pissin thier pants

Actually, this was a product I had on the drawing board years ago for my XJ product lineup. I had them advertised for a long time as "Coming Soon", but they never came because I got into the KJ stuff. They were a tube door with a removeable thin metal skin for the tube door, and a frame with canvas and clear zip down windows. You could change the doors into four different configurations to look and function for different mood/environment/weather. They were called my Chameleon Doors. My sister does interior and fashion design work, and will be designing up the pattern and sewing up the canvas/clear plastic uppers. So, instead of doing these for the XJ, I will make a few changes to my XJ design, and then you get KJ Chameleon Doors. Of course this will probably be a little while before I actually build them, but they have been on the drawing board for a long time. Changing the design from XJ to KJ will be nice because the mounting of the KJ doors is so much easier that the XJ. As for price, there are three manufacturers for XJ tube doors, and they are all around $300+/pair, so around $500-600 for a full set, and that is just for tube, not skinned or with canvas uppers.

Anyways, I'll burn that bridge when the time comes. Until then, it's keeping up with bumpers and sliders.

hey, wrote to Warrior products last night and received this as a reply back...

Jamison,

We have not ventured there as yet. But, if your could through your forum locate a Liberty in the Portland area and its owner would be willing to work with us, we would willing to work on it.

Local metal fabricator has teamed up with my local group, midsouthjeeps.com to start making tube doors for XJs, TJs and just about anyone who is interested in having some. If I had the funds I'd for sure go in and have mine fitted for some...I'll keep you guys updated as things move along...i might just get him to fit me for some based on the fact that someone else out there might want a pair, what you think about that?

I would not run for too long without doors at all or without tube doors as the KJ is unibody and I think you would lose a lot of structural integrity with nothing at all.

The doors will open and shut just fine when the KJ is all twisted up, seems like if they provided support they would be hard to open while twisted. I actually think a unibody vehicle would be better suited for doors off, as there is little flex in the "frame"

The whole reason for well made tube doors is to keep the structural rigidity. If they are made right, you will lose nothing but will gain a new look! A tube tail gate would be KEWL too  You could add the tire carrier to the tube rear door  It could be curved out to really look good.

My White Sport with 5 BunMetal Grey Tube doors and Grey Canvas coverings...and a rear mounted spare. 8)

If you go offroad frequently, there would be five less "body damage panels" to worry about. Would be nice if there was a way to get a bit of a "water seal" for safety sake...or just Rhino the interior floor!
