Well, I went to give my KJ it's first oil change since I got it and found out that the filter is not in the most convenient position. I was expecting to be able to reach it through the hood like my old Cherokee...

What set of service ramps do you all use?

I have no idea what they cost but if you can find a set that you drive onto and then remove the ramp you will like them. One of the problems with ramps is they seem to always get in the way.

That's a good point Fulltimer - I hadn't thought of that. If I can find the $20 ones at Walmart I'll probably grab them anyways though. :D

I cannot bring myself to trust the cheap ones. They could be very sturdy but just cannot trust them, it is just me. I don't even trust the jacks.. I am crazy.

I would just dig a hole in my driveway and drive up and climb down there, do the work. Old school.

I am not to sure about putting the jeep on plastic ramps and then lay under the jeep. To me that just is too iffy for me.

I use the craftsmen ramps. steel and sturdy

pepboys had a sale on these plastic ramps that are collapsable and snap together to use, but were rated for 8,000 lbs. they were on sale for $34 but i couldn't bring myself to buy them. i've used rhino-ramps before and have been happy with them, but it's just something i can't buy without being 110% sure. the whole "snap together to use, pull apart to store" thing had me shaking just thinking of using them.

Honestly, I'd trust a solid block of molded plastic over 1" steel piping welded together anyday.

I use Jackstands when needed with my Jeep, I, however, do not need them just to change the oil. Sometimes on our corolla I will just jack it up enough to get my arms under it. If I use jackstands then the car looks unstable since I must jack it up so far to get them under it, so I just use a floor jack. I can get to the filter and the drain without getting under the car if I jack it up, so if something did happen to the jack, I wouldnt die.

I would save the $20 and put it towards a lift kit. :D

I was going to say, I never use any jacks , ramps, jacks when I change my oil, with the lift I can reach everything just fine, SO THATS ANOTHER REASON TO INSTALL A LIFT!!!!! But I do have a set of heavy duty steel/metal ramps that I got for Christmas from my first wife (back in 1975 !!)

Luckily I have'nt had to use ramps or jackstands for years.I live about 1/2 mile from where I work with 13 bays, about 9 lifts. It's kinda nice to just drive on,raise the jeep above my head, slide the roll-around oil drain under it,and I'm done in nothing flat.Of course there is a downside to it,my boss makes me do this about 10 to 15 times a day Monday thru Friday. Work STINKS.......

When I have to get under the Jeep at home,I just find me a ditchline to straddle  This is the safest method known, and does'nt cost nothing. 8) Oh,and it saves you from having to dig a hole in your driveway. :P :P :P

I'd rather piss off the neighbors and build a service pit in my driveway!
