It seems that I read on here that we can going safely through water up to the middle of the headlights. It's 31" to the BOTTOM of my headlights. The KJ manual says 20". What's the answer? Assuming stock breathers.

If you go in water up to the headlights, then you are over the vents. The lowest one if probably either the tranny or the rear diff. The rear diff is mounted on top of the gas tank and the tranny is basically on top of the tranny.

Extend all the breathers and you should be ok to go to the bottom of the headlights.

Didn't the World War II Jeeps have a very low pressure air pump that would charge the tranny, diffs, etc. with just a bit of air to avoid water being able to easily get into everything? My dad mentioned it think?? The idea was that the air would continually escape where it could and effectively block water from coming in. Of course you would have to oil and grease everything a lot more, but at least it would help.
