Hi, my mechanic said I will need to replace my front brake pads within 5K. I have an '02 Limited. I'm just wondering if I have ABS? How can I tell? Does it matter? Should I do the rotors too?

Thanks

Tim

No it doesn't matter.Easy way to tell if you have ABS on a '02 is if you have rear drums, you don't have ABS,if you have rear disc then you do have ABS.You should at least have the rotors turned when changing the pads,I personnally would get new disc's.Turning the rotors leaves less material and doesn't disapate heat as fast,in my opinion though.

You sure about that tjkj? Ive never heard that if it had rear discs it had ABS.

Mine is an 04, so it may be different, but all jeeps after 03 had rear discs. Mine doesnt have ABS.

Is that just an 02 thing? Ive never heard/seen and 02 with rear disc either.

What Im getting at, I believe you can have rear drums and ABS.

either way, pop your hood and look for the ABS pump.. thats probably the easiest way.

Disc in the rear where part of the ABS option(and I mean option, did not come standard on any '02 as far as I've heard when I worked at the dealership and cost $650 extra),I've seen a few but not many that where special ordered with it.But hey I've been wrong before, they may have changed it after I bought mine in Feb '02.I was going to special order my KJ and that was a option that was special order only when I was putting together a KJ but decided I didn't want to wait 8 weeks. You can look for the ABS pump under the hood also but more applies to '03's+.You can have rear drums and ABS but not in a KJ.

I do have rear drums on my 02. What does the pump look like? Is it just to the left of the master cylinder?

Thanks
