Why would they not fit? It is held by two screws. Is that one outside just a tab that it rests on or will it actually hug the edge?
I cannot vouch for that if that'll hold good in case of "tug".. Otherwise, if that hugs that'll be just fine.
Hey, I paid $85 for a pair of crappy 3M "guards" when I first got my KJ.. I ordered them online thinking they are metal.. Flimsy plastics arrived..
So for this price, it seems to be a nice item. Let us know if you get it and post pix with it! :)

Someone on this site has them and indicated they were well built - of course I can't find that post now. If end up getting them I will post pics.

The one problem you have with steel guards, is they rust easy, if you live in a salt state, I would remove them for winter. I had steel ones on my 02 wrangler, I was constantly removing them and sanding + touch up and I didn't even drive it in the winter. Maybe por-15 would be the answer, I never tried it.

Yea man I agree with you. Why spend 80 beans to protect a $20 dollor tail lights.
the only reason for them is i guess they look cool. if your wheeling and slip off a rock, log, stump ETC, and hit the tail lamp METEL guards, it could bend out a body pannel maybe?
i would buy them just for the looks.... seems like I got off posting, an answer to that guys question if they will fit, yes they will.

Thanks for the feedback. In my case I'm just going for the look - just little things here and there to make mine look different. Good point about them being metal, could cause more damage if I actually did hit something.

I have them installed on mine. The driver side was a pain. Rust will happen you will periodically have to remove them and clean them up if you want them to last.

How about another coat of rustproofing? PVC coating or something else?

I have thought of rubber coating them. I just installed them maybe 6 weeks ago. I won't worry about it until I see some rust or after winter.

i think tail light guards look sick on a kj..

however the protection factor seems really worthless to me. dude sorry you got hit by a car but
if you ask me, having those on your car wouldnt have changed a thing.. a car vs. flimsy metal seems
like the car or rock or what ever would win everytime..

but the coolness factor still in my oppinion makes up for this

The real purpose of guards is to protect your lights from gravel that gets flung up by your tires, other peoples tires and or the wind. They were never designed on any vehicle to save the taillights from backing into the side of a mountain or another vehicle. Unfortunately, all of the tail lamp guards I have seen for the KJ are useless-- metal or plastic-- as they are grated so huge they would not stop anything from hitting the tail light.

If you get a chance to look at an old rover or military vehicle with front light guards/ or rear guards-- you will see the fronts are small rectangles-- smaller stops the rocks from going into the light. The guards on the KJ are right up there with the fake hollow aluminum Mopar bull bar that installs instead of your front recovery points, the Mopar tube steps that hang way too low, and best of all-- the lovely metal rivets that don't really attach anything found on the Renegade fender flare.

I don't understand how Mopar could make the Renegade light bar to be so functional and good looking and then turn around and make such useless crap. I guess they will not be happy until they turn the Jeeps into civics/scions with tons of chrome plastic upgrades. Perhaps their designers shop at AutoZone and PepBoys, so they feel the need to make useless cheap crap.

Mopar, either make real accessories or none. Whats next: fake chrome plastic shackles that can't be used?

I suppose its like the new Patriot commercials-- where they want you to live in a pretend world where you pretend to pick up wolfs with your fingers and then put them in the boat... and then get in a cheap Dodge car that says "Jeep" and pretend it is a XJ... They you can also pretend that hollow aluminum tube is a bull bar... and pretend the metal fashion statement rivets on yours flares are really functional upgrades and most importantly of all-- pretend you are not going to the mall, but are on a safari in Africa...
