When my CRD was new it would do about 385 miles for my daily drive to work (20% street at 35-50 mph, 80% highway at 65-70 mph).
Over time the Miles per tank has crept up slowly. At 10,000 miles the Miles per tank took a big jump up and has remained fairly steady.
Now, at 16,000 miles the routine commute results in about 450 miles before the fuel light depending on the number of weekend errands.
Extended highway driving on vacation turned in 485 to 495 miles per tank.

The Offroad Mod resulted in about a 1 MPG average increase -- roughly another 20 miles per tank.

With my lift and tires I still get great milage. When I filled up today I was at 456 miles. The best I have ever seen is 31 mpg. The lifts just don't effect the diesels like they do the gassers. You may lose 1 mpg. I still see tanks over 500 miles all the time.

I noticed that. It took me 145 miles to get to 3/4 of a tank-- no real difference versus before and after.

I also noticed it does not hurt the power much, Even with the 245/75 Revo's I broke the rear open when I got on it a little. That suprised me a bit.

I would also say the bigger tires give it a bit more power at freeway speeds as they keep the motor in the lower RPMS longer, so it stays more within the power band.

The brakes, however, leave a little to be desired now.

427? That sucks. You should be looking at 500-550 at least from full to empty. I got 30mpg from the tank last weekend running 50% blend from Chattanooga to Somerset KY and back. It was my first trip with veggy. My CRD liked it so much I might quit making bio and switch to veggy blend.

It depends on your driving mix. My mileage may not seem impressive to you, but if you have to see my driving conditions you'd understand. 405 to work every morning is a parking lot, constant stop and go traffic and speeds that rarely creep above 20mph. It takes 45+ minutes to drive 14 miles to work. Same story going home.

On the flip side, when I take trips to Eugene I frequently average 30+ mpg, with a top of 31.7mpg on one trip. But thats all highway, and I drive it at night when there is no traffice.

you folks need to remember the guy who started this thread - jinstall is driving on autobans with the occasional pass over 100mph - and at slower speeds -towing a trailer with race car - he said his driving habits didn't change so for him 400 on a tank is a significant achievement.

No; the real deal H1 with the 6.6 Duramax is no longer made for the civilian market.

The H1/HMMWV was designed by many of the same people at American Motors who designed the XJ. When AMC got in bed with Renault the Government vehicles divison (Hummer, Postal Jeeps, etc) was sold to the defense contractor LTV.

The H1 is a great off road vehicle, its in a bigger size & weight class than the TJ/JK/XJ/KJ so its a different animal.

IMHO Bob Lutz and the other marketing folk at GM are writting checks with the advertising that the product can't cash. The H2 (GMT800) and H3 (GMT300) are not very capable off road. Its quite amusing to watch the YouTube videos of H2s stuck or unable to negotiate trails that JK and XJ; snapping steering parts etc when the go off the pavement.

As GM has just announced that they are going to offer a 4.5L Duramax that fits the small block Chevy profile I suspect it will be offered in H2 and perhaps the H3 Alpha.

I am currently sitting between 1/4 and 1/2 and spent the day at the Nuerburgring beating on the Jeep. I only got one lap in as the traffic and accidents were at a peak. 11min 58 sec with a caution and several slowdowns do to passing cars. A sport mode for the transmission would have been great as it was searching for the right gear the whole time. I am VERY HAPPY with the handling and some what happy with the brakes. Still I am not gentle with the right pedal and getting 400 plus miles from a tank is a HUGE deal for my driving style. I know that I will NEVER see 500 miles from it.

It is amazing how 50+ cetane fuel helps the fuel mileage. I went from using 49 cetane LSD B2 to 47 cetane ULSD and had close to 10% MPG drop. I have switched back to the 49 cetane B2 fuel since even the start up's and engine noise is less with the B2 fuel. 8)

I thought I hit 500 once, but I looked it up and it was only 496. Bummer. It's still a darn sight better than my 2002 3.7L. Best I ever got range wise was 292.

Your results may vary hits real hard here. I'm lucky in that I had a direct comparision (my 2002 3.7L 45RFE 3.7 axle ratio KJ). Despite all the issues, the diesel option paid for itself in 40,000 miles.

On Friday my low fuel warning light came on at about 425 miles with mixed driving.

Just did a 420 mile tank on the MB, but it only has an 18 gallon tank. However it only took 16.1 gallons to fill (26 MPG), all but 60 miles was in town driving. :D

A little off topic here but does the low fuel light learn your bad habits like the other Liberty processors? It seems to me that when the Liberty was new I could count on 70>100 miles before a fill up. Now I need to be looking for a pump quickly.

I get 400+ on a regular bases, only get 500+ on straight highway.
Best thing about it is that My CRD burns Vegi oil.

I'm at around 450 when I put in around 19 gallons. I drive 98% highway 60 miles each way to work. I do drive around 85 though. If I were to slow it up to like 75 you think I could hit 500?

It's amazing how milage varies. I think fuel plays a large role. I drive pretty much the same route every day back and forth to work. 26 miles round trip. Sometimes I'll get 20mpg, sometimes 24mpg. Most of the time I fall on or around 21mpg.

On the highway, I've seen 27mpg and up to 30mpg. Same style driving.

The amazing thing is that towing a trailer up some pretty good size hills (about 1700lbs), I have seen from 19mpg to 24mpg. Just depends on the amount of stop and go I get into. That kills your mileage.

I have said that here since I first became a member. If you use a high quality clean 50 cetane fuel you will see a difference in mileage and power, not to mention quiter running engine. The difference in our VW TDI's between 42 cetane road diesel and the 49/50+ cetane B2/B10 was about about 4/5 MPG in town and 6 to 8 MPG highway. The difference in our Jetta's top speed was about 18/20 mph between the two type/quality fuels. Even the CRD shows these same effects, our CRD is so quite on the 50 cetane B10 ULSD that you can't hardly hear it run, it really does not sound like a diesel. The CRD will light up a set of 235/70 Geo's like nobody's business, even the old MB will lay rubber with that 50 cetane fuel. 8)

I never even see Cetane posted. At truck stops I'll see "atleast 40" on the pumps for the rigs, but not for passanger vehicles.

Yeah...truckers get all the goodies like the high speed pumps with hoses that don't fit in our filler neck. :x

Stick one of those hoses in your CRD and pull the trigger to hard and you will be wearing diesel after it fills the 20 gal tank in about 5 seconds. That 40 cetane stuff is crap and makes trucks nosier then all getout, 50 cetane in same truck will cut that noise dramatically, improve fuel mileage, burn cleaner in the engine and improve the power.
