Ok... I am in need of new pads on the front. I've done them once on my old Chevy Corsica and again on my Chevy truck, but have never done them on the KJ. Can someone kind of give me an idea of where to start.

I wasn't sure what section I should toss this into.

Thanks

Im unsure on the size of sockets that it requires(someone should chime in), but its a very easy change. Take two bolts out and slide the caliper out from the bottom. Use a c-clamp or brute force to push the piston back into the caliper while watching the level of brake fluid in the reservoir. Leave the lid on incase it tries to shoot out. Ive had brake fluid fly back out of the thing while pushing the piston back in.

if you want to change out the rotors, youve got to take the braket off that holds the caliper on. Again, its just two more bolts to take off. Sometimes the rotors are rusted on so they may take a beating to get them off. I do not like hitting the rotor with a hammer for fear or hurting the bearings, some sometimes there isnt much more you can do.

Dont let the caliper hang from the hose. It can damage the hose, so be sure to tie it up if needed.

I would add that it is easier to retract the pistons while the caliper is in place and that it doesn't hurt to loosen the bleeder and let a little brake fluid out that way while you are doing it.

I did my daughter's Cherokee a few years ago and when I compared the difference in price between milling the rotors and replacing them, replacement didn't make much sense. If there is a chance that the rotors may need work I would buy a set and have them there while it is torn down. You can always return them.
