General Gabber AT2

I just talked to Tire Rack about the General Grabber AT2 I need some help, They said stay with the stock size if not lifted, I'd like to go with 245's but from the board here the size of 245's that will work say there not rated for serve snow, I work in the Sierra's so I need a tire that will work in the snow also. Does anyone have an idea what this rating is and why would some Grabbers be rated for serve snow and other Grabbers not be rated. Thanks.

I was trying to figure that one out myself. Maybe they wont accept studs in certain sizes? The tread looks the same to me.

The customer service rep at Tire Rack said different sizes can have different tread patterns. I don't get that.

I have the General's in 245/70/16. They fit fine w/ very minor rubbing when the tires are new. They are M + S rated as well as studable.

As far as the different tread pattern, I can't say for sure. Sounds a little odd to me.

Thanks for the info. Do you have any idea what tire rack is talking about when they say not rated for serve snow?

No clue. I'm pretty sure the M + S designation on the side of the tire means it is rated for mud and snow. and considering the wide space in the treads ( IIRC, someone said it's wider than the BFG AT), I dont see why it wouldnt be. Had no problems w/ snow in CT last winter w/ them on. Great tires.

The first time I bought 4 Grabbers off of Tirerack they didn't give that warning. I just replaced my spare and noticed they put that warning up. As far as I can tell, it's exactly the same tire as the other 4. It has the holes for studs and it has the M+S designation.

Here is something stupid: They come in 18 and 16 on my size, but not 17.. WHY..

I am also looking at purchasing the Grabber AT2s, in either 245/70/16 or 245/75/16, and I am not lifted (but I am prelowered). Is your minor rubbing with or w/o a lift? Where exactly are you rubbing? Does anyone know if I can squeeze the 245/75/16 on an early 2002 w/o lifting (I can't afford a lift, and I don't off-road very often)?

on mine the 235/70's are a snug fit at full turn

rubbing is VERY minor, and only at full lock turn. As my tires wear, it becomes less and less. You'd be hard pressed to notice it while driving. Occasionally, w/ the windows down and no music on, you can hear it a little, but its honestly nothing.

Hey guys I just got a reply from General Tire Customer service and they said the Grabber AT2 is serve snow rated in the 245/70R16. There must be a communication problem between them and Tirerack.com. I just wanted to let everyone know the out come of the question.

Look at the mileage reported before making a decision.

For some reason Pirelli ATRs are not available in 17"s anymore!! They were, previously. Currently only Pirelli Scorpion A/T's are available in 17s out of that list. It is such a shame! :evil:

I got a letter from Tirerack.com they said yes the 245/70R16 is rated for serve snow . But since General Tire didn't put the Mountian with the snow flake symbol on it they put the not rated warning on the site.

I've got the grabbers in 255/70/16 and am very happy with them. I get minor rubbing in the front on the Jeepin By Al control arms when turning. In the rear I would get some rub on the inner wheel well before I extended the bumpstops. We don't get much snow around here, but they were great when we did. I was driving right by others that were stuck slipping on a hill. I had plenty of traction. Now mud is a different story. They are mediocre at best in the really slick clay type of mud. I got into one spot on flat level ground that when I took my foot off the brake tires just spun. I'd give it some gas and really sling some mud to clear the tires and move forward very slowly.
