I replaced my pads about a year ago to ProACT ceramic pads and had the factory rotors turned because they were still good just very warped. Well the warping is back and worse than before. So, my question is did the Hawk pads make it worse by heating them up more? or do they just really suck?

Also, if i go to get new rotors do i have to get new pads if the ones on there are fine?

Thanks,

-Nick

My OEM rotors were turned twice during the first 30,000 miles. They warped, I had them turned, they warped again within a couple thousand miles, I had them turned and then they warped again and I lived with it until the pads wore out.

I replaced the rotors with Raybestos rotors (american or candian steel not Chinese). I also used Raybestos pads. I have since put 15,000 miles on the Jeep and the rotors have not warped. Also my stopping power improved considerably. The stock brakes are junk.

The pads probably had nothing to do with it since the stock pads are also ceramic.

Ive had my rotors machined once and theyve been fine since then. I believe that was at 15k or so and now I have 27k on it..

Solid brembo rotors are $50 a piece which isnt that bad..

PowerSlots are $100 a piece which is crazy.. I would rather get the cheapest rotors every few years at advance auto than to spend $200 just for rotors on the front.

Maybe I've just been lucky, or I'm light on the brake pedal...but I have yet to replace pads, turn the rotors, or have any problems whatsoever with the OEM brakes. I'm at 56,000 miles right now and I don't see a reason why I couldn't make it to 65,000. And that's with the heavier MTRs and Moab rims. Go figure... :D

I'm up to 70,000 now and i never had a problem with rotors, it MIGHT be my braking style. Also, i don't use ceramic pads.

81000 miles now, still have never touched the brakes and I pull a trailer quite a bit! For example today just pulled it 765 miles, no warping/ anything. I think my brakes will make it 90/95,000 at least. Is somebody riding the pedal without knowing it???

I too have over 70,000 miles on my brakes and diddo.I'd replace both rotors with the highest quality "NAPA" brand and install their ceramic pads. After 25 years of doing brake jobs,I feel that this combination keeps our shop at a very low comeback rate.Just my 2 cents.

You dont HAVE to put new pads on. The only problem would be if the pads wore to the old rotors, braking may seem alittle crappy with the new rotors until the pads wear to the new rotors. Not a big problem really..

Roger that!! I got the cheap $29each advanced auto rotors on the front. No problems with them. This is my second set. My last advance auto pads lasted 45kmiles. I bought new rotors again for $60 because it didn't make sense to wait half a day for the machine shop to cut them and also pay $25 for machining. To me time is money and extra $35 bucks is worth not having to wait 5hrs for the machine shop. I put ebc green stuff pads on and love them. Low dust, no noise, increased stopping power.
