I almost pulled the trigger on a 2006 CRD today but one last look through the grill made me stop. I was looking for a CRD with a factory tow package and I thought this one had it, but I saw nothing that looked lke a tranny cooler.

I saw a hitch in the back with a seven wire connector and I saw a large electric fan infront of the AC condensor but no small radiator for the tranny. The salesman said the 2006s didn't have the coolers as part of the tow package, only the large remote fan. He says a 2006 CRD without the tow package, wouldn't have that fan. I disagree.

Who's right.

Thanks,
Eric

Can't say....I've towed with mine and it worked just fine. I have the same electric fan behind my grill, but I've never seen it run. Don't know what the heck it does.

I couldn't see a fan behind the radiator. Too much stuff there. The only fan I saw was in front of the radiator, infront of the the AC consensor, actually.

Sorry to burst your bubble but all crd's have a tranny cooler and two fans :!: The transmission cooler is incorporated in with the AC condensor coil. That's why when F37 is preformed and they replace the front pump they also replace the condersor unit :D What you want to look for is a power steering cooler but I don't know if even that's included :?: That' may be what was not included in the 06 models.

Go back and get him down some more because he thinks it dosen't have the cooler

So, if the PS cooler has been deleted, and I think it has, the tow package option for the 2006 CRD consisted only of the hitch and a short wiring harness?

Thanks,
Eric

As uncomfortable and inconvenient as that will be, that'll be the only way to know for sure. I wish I didn't have to go to the dealer.

As I recall the only difference in the '06 CRD with and without the factory hitch option was the hitch and the power receptacle. All of the other parts were standard.

If you have the VIN number you can get a build sheet from jeep.com

Uh...I don't think so, but I would love to be proven wrong. Educate me, please.

As part of my deal I had the dealership give me a "tow package" since the only CRD they could find like I wanted had everything but that,... so anyway we went through a bunch of confusion... the salesman was confused the parts dept too.. I called chrysler several times and they all told me after some research the only thing different is the hitch and the harness.

All CRD's have the 'heavy duty' cooling that is part of the tow package. What I didn't like is that the tow package option was the same price as the gas. If I'm already getting the cooler that's part of the gas tow package, shouldn't it have been cheaper?

sure it should be and they also shouldn't try and charge $60 for a cigarette lighter and metal cup(aka an ashtry) that you can get at Autozone for less than $10 for both....

how do they know if the 8th place is a 5 (which means CRD) but they only ask for the last 8 places for the VIN?

I just sent mine off... :D

My assembly date is shown as 06/04, if I recall it was put in service in July or August of 2004.
