I was wondering if anyone can recommend a decent Torque Wrench for a reasonable price. Something I've needed for a while and probably should quit guessing on some parts.

Hard to go wrong with a Craftsman from Sears. They start at around $30 and carry a lifetime warranty.

That's what I have. Actually, I have two. A 3/8 inch drive and a 1/2 inch drive.

If you get the Craftsman, stick with the standard bar and pointer style-it has the lifetime warranty and is cheaper. Craftsman makes a fancier one that has a twist setting and a head that breaks at the indicated torque. They are expensive, inaccurate, and only carry a 1 year warranty. I went through 2 of that style and finally went back to the standard old fashioned one and have had no problems.

Inaccurate is possibly an understatement. I went through two of them and returned both. I set the torque at 85 and found I could break the head using just my thumb and fingers on my right hand. This is ridiculous. I know I can't exert 85 foot-pound of pressure with my thumb :D

I haven't had any problems with my ratchet style adjustable torque wrench. *Not a craftsman*

I should clarify. Both of mine are rachet style and have had no problems with either. Most of the folks I've wrenched with use these as well with no problems that I'm aware of. If I remember correctly the instructions did say to have them calibrated from time to time. Maybe that's the issue others are having.?.?

My 3/8 drive is a no name brand from Checker and the 1/2 drive is Craftsman. Both work great.

There may have been some sort of manufacturing defects. I got the first one from Sears in Lake Forest. Returned it to Sears in Bristol/South Coast Plaza, both of them I could break with my thumb at 85 foot-pound setting. Brand new, both. What are the chances? :D

I've got the Craftsman in 3/8 and 1/2 click /non beam style and havn't had any trouble with either of them. Get them Calibrated now and then and don't forget to store them "unloaded". I've double checked mine with other torque wrenches of other style/manufacture and it's always been either right on...or real close.

good luck 8)

Hmm, seem as if the craftsman click style only comes w/ a 90 day warrenty and maybe have quality control issues.

However the Husky ones from Homedepot come with a lifetime warrenty.

Same thing with the no-name ones from Checker Auto Parts.

Have you ever tried to hunt down a tool truck. I have most (90%) of my tools off the truck. All carry a lifetime warrenty and are of the best quality (You get what you pay for). I have had a few run ins' with Snap-On but have always got things worked out.

I have three, two Snap-on and one Mac. All ratchet type and click type head. no trouble with any of them. Just make sure when you store it you set it back to zero or the lowest setting it has.
