Since my Liberty is new I figure the transmission fluid is currently full,
so I was thinking I should just make my own dipstick instead of buying one for $70.
I figure I could just stick any old stick in there and wherever the fluid comes up to is my full mark.

How long does it need to be?
How does the cap that says dealer-use only come off.........srew it off, or pull it off.
Thought I'd check before I break something.

Now that I think of it isn't it strange that a company is making a dipstick that costs $70?
It's just a stick. It doesn't do anything.
Why on earth would anyone pay $70 for a stick?

I suppose you could get a dipstick out of a junked KJ for less than half that price... I just don't know how hard it would be to locate said stick.

Why on earth would anyone pay $70 for a stick?"

haha, it is alittle sad that they dont have a stick.. I know I wouldnt like it if I didnt have a stick..

If I noticed that before I bought it, I would of asked for a stick or I wasn't buying.. There isnt an excuse for not putting a stick in that hole..

I was one of those people who bought a stick. It is a tool with specific measurements. Someone like me who keeps their vehicles for a very long time and who does all the maintenance themselves may find that buying the stick is useful, beneficial, and pays for itself. The value of the stick is in the eyes of the beholder.

I've looked into it some and was told on here the 06 dipstick (8 bux or so at the dealer) should be correct to use. The trans should be identical to the 06, and the filler tube has the same part number w/a revised ending suffix (eg 88888888AB for 07 versus 88888888AA for 06). From what I've gathered, this is due to the new "for dealer use only" cap (which I guess screws on/into?) the filler tube, rather than a normal tubing end a dipstick would typically squeeze into.

Don't take this for gospel though....it is only hearsay and I've NOT tested this.
