Hats off to those who drive with the MTRs (or any big MTs for that matter) as daily tires. I put my set on today for the first time and was blown away by the road noise...

Just glad to have em for the non-pavement use :)

Yes any of them do (mud type tires) thats why it is best to have a second set  Of course I can remember running 40 inch mudders to Daytona Beach and back a few times from Ohio , after a few hundred miles it sort of lulls you to sleep,  I have ran Ground Hawgs, and all the mud type tires over the years and do not miss that sound one bit....well maybe every now and again

I'm not that hard...I love the look, but when I put MT/Rs on I couldnt WAIT to get them off. Terrible road noise, and they vibrated my whole drivetrain. My wife drives an Audi, and it is smooth as butter and I love it. I don't expect my Jeep to ride like an Audi, but man I can't take that noise, so I put my street tires back on. I couldn't even hear the radio

I want a tire with a pretty aggressive pattern because I do go offroad from time to time, but with little to no noise. Suggestions?

Anyone know if the new BFG's that come on the 07 Rubi's are loud like MTR's? Eventually I plan on putting 32/33's on something (current KJ or a wrangler if I get one) and wanted to know the same thing.

I love noisy tires, let's me know they are still there  ! The best are Interco Boggers, you can hear a vehicle coming from a mile away with those suckers :D ! Any tire with big lugs and voids are going to be noisy, can't get away from it,the more agressive the tire the noiser they are.Gotta give something up for offroad performance, and usually it's a quiet on-road ride and tread life for kick$ss offroad performace.

By the way the BFG MT's are noisy to,my Interco Trxus MT's are a little less noisy than MT/R's though.

Mine were noisy when I first put them on. I bought them used with Moab wheels from a Rubicon. I suspect that the Rubicon was out of alignment.

You can minimize the road noise by doing the following:

:D Inflate them to 35-40 pounds - remember they are rated to 80lbs, but for the KJ wieght, 35 to 40 has worked for me very well.
:D Get a front end alignment, I suggest that you run the tires for 3-4k, then put the backs on the front and get an alignment. the 3-4k on the back should insure that pair is straight and level and alignment will go well. You will probably notice the tire noise follows the set that was last on the front.
:D Rotate them regularly- remember running them for 5-6k on the fixed axle in the back will correct any wear problems encountered when they were on the front, cycle them regularly. Rotating them is a part of my regular maintenance routine.

BFGoodrich Commercial T/A Traction. Your local tire shop may carry them in-stock. My local Discount Tire did because they have a contract with quite a few maintenence/commercial companies for that specific tire. They have a really aggressive and, IMO stylish tread and sidewall, yet they are incredibly smooth on-road, like a street tire, and make no road-noise audible to me. I also run a roof-rack and am used to some noise from that all the time, but the BFGs are a HUGE difference from my last set of tires, Firestone Destination M/Ts. The BFGs make a great all-season street tire because they have a LOT of siping, and their a severe-snow rated. I've only had them in limited offroad situations, but they so far, they self-clean mud almost as efficiently as my old M/Ts, have a lot more lateral traction, and seem to provide more overall traction. I think it's probably all those darn sipes! So far it seems like a true A/T with real offroad abilities (nothing against BFG A/Ts...they just don't self-clean).
I'm not a salesmen for BFG, I was just amazed by all their characteristics as soon as I got them, and I know practically NO ONE knows about them.

In England, they're THE offroad tire. Proof: http://www.4x4-tyres.co.uk/
Go halfway down the page and you will see a little article about them with a review.

They were readily available to me in sizes 245/75R16 and 235/85R16. That was just what they had in the basement of the shop. I think they are also available in 265/75R16...but don't quote me on that.

noisy tires = good traction
quiet tires = stuck
If my wife can stand them they can not be that bad

That is all

I'll let you know when I get stuck next, but I'm pretty sure my quiet tires work just as well if not better than my old Destination M/Ts in everything but the really gooey mud. Interestingly enough, I KNOW you can get stuck with really noisy tires.
As for their wet-weather performance, I just got them on a few days ago, and we're averaging in the 90s for the last few days, so obviously they haven't seen ice or snow. They are severe-snow rated, and all the siping means it has to do decent in wet weather. I've had them on wet pavement and they wouldn't chirp. My buddy who works at Discount Tire and hooked these tires up said he was excited to see what I could do this winter. I've always loved driving in the snow and needless to say, I too am excited to see what they can do. I'll update you guys here on the forums when they hit the first snow, which will be at least 2 months. If you read the article I included in my previous posted, you'll see a part in the review where he talks about not needing 4x4 in the snow, that "2HI" got him through everything. I'm guessing that's on the street, but that's still good enough for me.

Keep me posted, I really like them.

Hows the noise compared to the M/T's cause I had a set of them too. I did not find them (M/T's) too bad. I didn't run them on the road much, usually offroad with a squishy 15lbs of air.

This is interesting and the first time I've EVER seen an OK on tire mixing:

"Use on rear axle (with Commercial T/A® All-Season on front axle) for added traction or both axles of vehicles used off-road and/or in severe snow conditions"

This came from the goodrich site.

I'd say they these tires have as much road noise at any speed as my stock tires, Goodyear RS-A's. Like I said, think street tire when it comes to on-road characteristics.

Hey respect, I noticed they block the tread off to the edge like Destinations do to get as much contact as possible.

I put them on a set of 6-spoke renegade wheels. They look really good.

I remember once climbing a hill with them at 25% tread, and I got my front tires over the top edge but all my tires started slipping and the KJ was motionless as I gave it gas. Then I remembered, "try turning the wheel" and as I rotated the steering wheel slowly and continued accelerating, my tires found traction and pulled the whole rig clean over the obstacle. I didn't want to give up the amazing sidewall lugs of the Destination M/Ts with my new tire choice. From the looks, I didn't give up much with the Tractions, but overall I think the tire's compound is softer and the sidewall lugs are smaller (read: easier to rip off). I'm still waiting to replace my front hubs and then I'll get to test these tires in the mud and on the rocks for a full report to be posted on here.

I got mt/r's on mine. I drive 50 miles per day round trip to work. The only thing i dont like is the gas mileage. The noise doens't bother me i dont think they are that loud. Sometimes i drive with the radio off and just listen to the tires

Bringing up an older post but just bought a set of Moabs with MTRs on today, got home and thought I would see what they sounded like, Now two of them are worn nice and even clear across, I put those two on the front, 2 are cupped some and put those on the rear, the spare has never been on the ground so didnt want to touch it. But man you can hear those back ones bad! Sounds like most of the ones I ran years ago but not sure anymore. Now I have to think if I want to sell them , find another to match the spare and run them, keep them for the trail or ??? ...any suggestions

Tom

as long as your front is aligned good and you are still running the OE rear LCA's and such then the rear will "fix" the 2 that are back there
I would run them out back for 3K then swap them left to right then go another 3K and see what you got because by 6k the fronts will need to go out back to be "fixed" if they are still sucking then just buy a new one to mach the spare and put those up front and keep the bad one as a spare
