I did a search and alls I could find is everyone here pretty much uses every kind of skid.

My KJ has no skids right now :!:

What I'd like to know, is the best bang for buck skids - Right now Im looking to only cover the Engine/Tranny, and Transfer Case as best as possible.

I was looking at Rusty's, and their setup looks like it covers it just about right.

Skid Row looks awesome, but, as I recall, also costs a small fourtune, IMO

Is Mopar feezable? I need something diecent that wont fail on the trail.

Any other recommendations?

I been wheelin witout skids for awhile now with some close calls. I've decided not to go out again until I can get bare protection on the vitals.

I'm satisfied with my Mopar Engine, T-case and Gas skid. I'd stay away from the Mopar tranny skid.

Alos, Mopar seems to have TWO engine skids. The ne that came stock on my '02 gasser is much beefier than the one on my wife's '06 gasser.

The stock mopar skids are fine unless you do alot of rock crawling. Ive sat mine down on the mopar tranny skid and it did just fine, but the first time you give it a good lick it will bend.. I just slid over mine.

I got the mopar, and they seem pretty beefy. Although I am sure that the other brands are MUCH beefier. I think mopar will be fine for my needs. Today at lunch I put on my engine and tranny skid. I did the tank skid the other day, and I just have the transfer skid left ( I am changing the atf in the transfer case as I am putting on that skid- probably Thursday)
-Tank skid: 26 lbs.
-Transfer case skid : 11 lbs.
-Transmission skid: 19 lbs.
- Engine skid (older $50.00)- 17 lbs.

Good luck and happy install !!!

I've got the SkidRow dront, tranny, and transfer skid, love them.If I had the OEM skids I would have had to replace the front diff, tanny, and t-case from some of the hard hits I subjected them to.Plus you gain alot of clearence with the SkidRow front skid.I'm using the OEM gas tank skid, have yet to even scratch the paint on it.

If you do decide to go with the mopar, check out http://www.justforjeeps.com/rebate.html
There is currently a $ 25.00 rebate if you spend over $ 200.00
Good luck!

So no hits on a few of the other makes then.

Sounds alright for the Mopar skids then, usually my worry is stumps and other things. I dont really do a whole lot of rock crawling just yet.

I'd love the Skid Row, but its like ALOT of money for now. Maybe when Im better equipped, or break a stock skid plate.

Thanks for all the input. I'll look into the stock skid plates. Im a bit concerned about the area it covers, and if it offers enough protection.

I've been running the stock Mopar skids for the front and the transfer since I bought my KJ and they have held up well despite the abuse I've subjected them to (Moab, Colorado Rockies for 3 years of hard wheeling, etc.). My gas tank skid was done in by a stump about a year ago so I upgraded to a Kilby skid and I don't think there is any way I could bend that one. My All J Super Skid II tranny skid is something I bought soon after moving to Colorado and I'm glad I did. I have come down hard on it a few times and I swear the extra $ I spent on that skid saved me major $$$ in broken transmission parts that may not have been saved with a lesser skid. My philosophy is to purchase as much protection as I can afford so I never have to say, "CRAP, I didn't expect to hit anything like that! Now I wish I had spent that extra $$ on ..."

It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.
