I know that if your wife is near a base and they have a AAFES garage the reds sell for $109 each. Yellows are $149

As Old Navy said there are several different types of Optima battery sizes. I have seen several differnt sizes in the yellow, red and blue.

yea, she is near Nellis AFB, I will have her check it out. I just wish that I could find an Optima battery type finder on the net some where, I went to the Optima site and it says there are no listings for the KJ???

Like I said guys it is a 34R Redtop that they put in the CRD, only thing they did (at least on my 05) was leave off the model number. I checked them side by side and they were same size and bioth were reversed poles. The positive pole when sitting in the truck is on the top forward section of battery top and engine side of the battery, instead of being at rear section of battery top and on the engine side.

0311_DoC just have the wife ask for a 34R Redtop and it will be perfect fit.

34 is the battery Group Size R is for the post being reversed.

34R, 24R, 78R and a few other are like this meaning the post are reversed. Most Honda's use a Group 42 if I remember correctly. I beleive the R used to be a F which meant Ford as the Fords had the backwards setup.

In otherwords, the 34R is a 34R whether a red top, yellow top or a Diehard.

but in short to answer your question, all optima's are the same SIZE (L*W*H) and will fit just fine. if your running a lot of extra acc. (audio amps, KC lights, spot lights, etc..) then go with the Red top, if your running mostly stock then stay with the yellow.

Hope this helps

I thought the yellow top was the deep cycle for all the extra acc.???

 your right, I got it backwards!!!

This is what I got back from Optima...

Unfortunately we do not make a 34R in the Yellow Top. What we can suggest
is trying the D34 Yellow Top and turning it around to see if the cables
will reach. If not, the D35 may work. It has the reverse terminals but
is a smaller battery then the D34 and 34R.

The 34R is the reversed pole Optima makes as far as I know. I was goingf to use the 34R I have in my '05 MB but the + pole is just to far toward the center and my MB has no slack in its positive cable. I looked all over town for some type adaptor but was unable to find any, all I need is about 1" to 1.5" extra, what a bite. :x

It is under warranty for as long as I owne it, so I don't want to screw up the warranty messing with things too much. The cable is a multi cable affair that splits and goes different directions, unlike my Magnum.

Just some extra information. A dealer tried to install a regular battery in my 05 CRD, I asked for a red top and got it. That is what goes in the CRD. Also, Interstate battery owns the red top, yellow top and blue brands. You might check with them. Also you need the red top for the cranking power.

Good luck!

I had my Red Top replaced by the Dealer. I bought my CRD in July 06, and the battery was dead by Nov 06. My Jeep never sat for long periods. The battery just crapped out. Which surprised me because I have used Optima batteries for a long time, and I've never had a single problem. My Dealer replaced it with no questions asked. But if they would have dropped a regular battery in there instead of the Optima, I would have come unglued. Like I said though, they were very good about it. The new Optima has a newer look to it, not like the original. Not sure of the model number. No problems so far.

Before you do a bunch of battery swapping, check and see how how your alternator does under FULL (as in EVERYTHING, including the rear defroster, brights, blower, etc.) LOAD. I had a bad idler pulley (the spring would stick at certain levels of throw). This resulted in a flapping serpentine belt knocking out the bearings on the alternator. Under FULL load (I cannot emphasize enough), you could watch the alternator shaft wobble. Sometimes you could here the belt squeak after startup (thank you glow plugs) as the alternator tried to recharge the battery. Over time, the battery simply kept losing until the charge was gone. Their was simply too much slip in the system for this to occur. I have not had this problem re-occur since this pullery/serpentine/idler was fixed last winter.

Trust - but verify.

FYI,
Boiler

Well the kind people at the dealership called and your Jeep will be ready on Friday. They could not find a problem with the electrical but did fix the one recall and will now fix the second recall. They replaced the blower motor and will now fix the torque converter

got this from the wife today.........
