i have an 04 sport with cd pleyer and six speakers.i would like to change the head unit .will that alone make it sound better.i dont want to go crazy with a whole system.how are the stock speakers?

stock speakers are good I changed just the radio itself in mine & it sounds better than with the stock radio eventualy I'll change speakers but right now it suits me fine

what kind of stereo?ws it a big difference?

go to crutchfield, and put in your jeep liberty with the year.
And then go to stereos, it will show all stereos that match your size (DIN or 1 1/2 DIN) and those that come with free wiring harness.

I went with Kenwood Head unit, with USB support, it sounds GREAT!!! I have infinity premium speakers and they give out very good bass, and the settings of the kenwood helps a lot. I am not just saying that, but Crutchfield is great, i don't care if you use my code or not, but during installation if anything goes wrong, they will stay on the phone with you until it's fixed!!!! I messed up my antenna adapter by forcing it into place and broke the pin, I called them and they sent me another one which I received in 4 days, free of charge.

does infinity make all the speakers for the jeep liberty?i have the sport model

I am not sure if those are infinity as well, but some sports had "infinity premium sound" as option. Do you have 6 speakers?
In any case, many people said that it makes a difference with a new HU even without infinity premium speakers. You may wanna consider subwoofer down the road if you want to get best out of any new head unit.

ok cool.well i just want something a tad louder.when i play my SIRIUS its no where near as loud as the normal radio.yes i have 6 speakers.

The stock stereo and speakers were too quiet so I added the sub and that made a nice difference. Nothing earth shaking, but good for the space it took. Later changing the head unit made a big difference. Now with an Alpine head unit, Mopar sub and three of the stock speakers, I'm a happy camper without spending too much dough.

The fourth speaker had an accident.

03 Freedom with some neat stuff done to it that I learned about here.

Yep, I think with a sub any cheap-o speakers will sound OK since there won't be bass to garble the sound.
But, like I said the infinity premium setup sounds like I have a low-end subwoofer.. so I am just holding the thought of buying one until later.

ok.do 6 speakers mean its the premium sound?

I believe so which means you have the tweeter speakers on the dash if so then yes, my wife has the sport model with the same speakers as in mine

I think always the best way, if you are still not satisfied you always have option to go wire new speakers...
But if you just upgrade speakers with stock you won't get big sound from them.

I just came across two 15"s in a box and an amp. Where do you guys tie in for your subs? The box has separate inputs for each speaker so I'm thinking, just split off the rear speakers, into amp, then into the 15"s. Should work, right?

The sound you hear starts out as AC voltage that leaves the amplifier stage of the source. This voltage energizes the voice coil in the speaker, which makes the cone move up and down at a certain frequency which vibrates the air which we perceive as "sound". That being said, the speaker is the "business end" of the sound system. Changing the speakers will have the biggest impact on performance, changing the deck would be a leteral move at best.

I have looked at the output of the stock deck connected directly to an Audio Control RTA (Real Time Analyzer) and have verified that the output is basically flat (20Hz - 20kHz). There is a slight rise in low frequency output as you reduce the volume below "10". This is not uncommon in OEM decks, it works somewhat like the "Loud" feature found on aftermarket decks. This is done to keep the acoustic levels even because we are much more sensitive to high frequencies than lower.

Distortion is high-frequency noise so it would show up on the RTA. I saw no evidence of it when I looked. I believe that unless you spend a ton of cash on the aftermarket deck, there is a great possiblity that it would have greater distortion output that what came with your Jeep. Higher levels of distortion can be perceived as "better" by some because there is more "sound".

If the aftermarket deck offered some feature you are looking for that the OEM deck does not offer, then that's a KJ of a different color. It will not "sound" any better however.

Change the speakers, that's what you hear. AC voltage is AC voltage no matter where you get it.
