Guys,

I'm thinking of lifting my KJ on mt/r's but I don't want the ride quality to be harsh. Does the lift and tires totally null the cushy ride from the factory? I do a lot of long trips and don't want to be making something a pain to drive like my last truck.

My dos pesos:

I've gone through two sets of MTR's - the first were 265/75's. Then I had 245/75's. I noticed the weight loss between the two, but essentially they rode the same. The stiff sidewalls and large tread lugs equate to a somewhat noisy and vibration-filled ride (especially as they wear - MTR's will wear unevenly and go out of balance often).

I just switched to BFG AT KO's 245/75. I am so happy I did as far as 'cushiness' goes. Softer sidewalls and a tighter tread pattern totally smooth things out. I'm sure I've sacrificed a bit of off-road grip, but not that much in exchange for less tire noise and vibration.

Todd

Have you considered a Patriot in the Trail Rated version? Room, comfort, some decent off-road ability, and good MPG.

IMO, the Patriot and Compass are not viable trail vehicles.

I am so glad to hear some one else besides me say this
thank you

i appreciate the responses, gang. it looks like i might have to put any plans of upgrading/trading on hold for awhile (some unexpected financial concerns have blossomed in the last few days.... :( ). the Wrangler i have is a late 90's TJ with a hardtop. when i threw on 31" BFG AT's the gas mileage took a bit of a dump (but the ride sure got alot more stable). mechanically it is as sound as any vehicle i have ever owned (i.e. ZERO problems) but,..of course,..it IS a Wrangler much means noise and bumpiness and lack of space and assorted "short-wheel-base" thrills . the Liberty sure looks nice but i'm afraid i'm gonna have to survive with "the tub on wheels" for a bit longer. if things change i'll chime in with an update. cheers!

Gee whiz, it's not it either or !!! you need both. The wrangler is an offroad mules with the on road cool factor and it's a convertable. The lib is your everyday ride in comfort vehicle that can wheel. No drive is complete without one of each.
