Now that I'm reaching the big 30...
I was wondering what should be some definites on changing, checking and/or replacing.

For example, spark plugs, gas filter, Transfer case or Transmission oil.

I tell you, from all the stuff I read and DC recommendations, I hesitate from doing things in a prudent manner( like my 2nd air filter I kept on way too long).

I don't wheel the KJ since the summer of '69( sorry. couldn't resist)2004 and I always drive in stop and go traffic, some nice 30 to 40 minute hwy travel and maybe 2hr drives twice a month.

I think just because I worry I'll end up checking everything anyway. I just could use a direction for what to look out for at this point.

Thanks in advance.

Edgar,

I try to change the tranny fluid, transfer case and diff fluid between 30 and 40K, I try to change the brake fluid around 50K and the antifrezze every two years, regardless of the mileage. I am bit a**l when comes to my Jeep maintenance, but that's me. The spark plugs I changed out at 35K, and I am due to replace them soon. The gas filter is another thing. First, the darn thing is expensive, unless the after market has one now. Second some have left the thing in for close to 80k with no problem. I changed mine at 40K, I couldn't tell if I needed to or not.

Help this little bits helps. See you on Saturday?

Al

On my 2002 the fuel filter is located in front of the tank up high next to the floor boards. It is in a differcult location for removal, but it can be done. The first thing you must do is drill out the pop rivets holding the four tie downs in the rear area. Remove them and then carpet, to access the door to the fuel tank. Unbolt the door, its held in place by 10mm(?) bolts and sealant. Remove the lines from the top of the tank, and crawl under the liberty remove the filter and the remaining lines. If I remember correctly there will be fuel pressure in the lines, so be careful.

The filter is a little (maybe 2 inch) cylinder with about four or six lines coming out of it.

Are u sure the fuel filter is that difficult to get to? Seems to me that if this is a part that's meant to be replaced you shouldn't have to "drill" anything out!

Yep,

Look at the manual, I had a hard time with this too, but it sez you must be removing the carpet inside the rear area to access the door to the fuel pick on the top of the tank. The carpet is held down by the plastic tie downs at the four corners of the rear area. The plastic tie downs are held in place by alum. rivets. I guess you could drill out only the front two and roll the carpet back. I will see if I can get a copy of the manual. I understand the fuel filter is only change every 100k (at least that's what I was told, I didn't look that up) but with the gas these days I changed mine at 35K, and it's up again.
