Man I must say you guys are really holding up well with all the problems the CRD is having. It just goes to show that people who buy diesels are not like the average Joe or Jane that buy the gasser. I never had a problem other than one CEL for a MAF and later one for EGR, I'm not sure if I could be as even tempered as most here has been with their problems.

Before you do a bunch of battery swapping, check and see how how your alternator does under FULL (as in EVERYTHING, including the rear defroster, brights, blower, etc.) LOAD. I had a bad idler pulley (the spring would stick at certain levels of throw). This resulted in a flapping serpentine belt knocking out the bearings on the alternator. Under FULL load (I cannot emphasize enough), you could watch the alternator shaft wobble. Sometimes you could here the belt squeak after startup (thank you glow plugs) as the alternator tried to recharge the battery. Over time, the battery simply kept losing until the charge was gone. Their was simply too much slip in the system for this to occur. I have not had this problem re-occur since this pullery/serpentine/idler was fixed last winter.

Trust - but verify.

Hi! I have heard a flapping noise 3 times now. It sounded like someone driving on a flat tire and it has to have come from my KJ. Did you hear anything from yours?

Thanks! LK :?

I have used one from BatteryTender.com and here is the link to the one I have used now for about 5 years. Battery Tender Plus

I've had good luck with this cheap little maintenance charger.

http://www.blackanddecker.com/ProductGu ... ctID=15572

One of the problems (not all bad) with modern battery chargers is that they detect polarity before they will charge. If the terminals are hooked up backwards the charger does nothing. Also, if the battery is completely absolutely dead some chargers will not be able to detect polarity and just do nothing. In this case a quick jump will establish polarity and the charger will work properly.

Sams club has a "smart" battery that has WET, GEL and AGM settings along with decalisify and equalize settings :D It was just under $50

How big is that one? The Battery Tender is about 3x3x5 and is easy to store, and has been great for service. That said it is 5 years old and I should start thinking about replacing it with a new one, and that sound like it might be worth looking at the next time I go to Sam's.
