I've got my controller all set up, except for the power. I couldn't find the firewall plug either. Also, I can't beleive that I need to hook up to the battery, when there should be plenty of power right at the fuse panel. Has anyone picked up the power at that point?

Everyone is mentioning the phrase "IF you have the factory tow package" in the beginning of this post. Mine didn't come with the factory tow package. Does this mean the install will be different for me? I thought the wiring was there on all models?

It will be different for you. You need a 7-slot trailer wire plug near your hitch if you ever want trailer brakes to work. The tow package included this as well as running the "7th wire" for the trailer brakes from the wire plug all the way through the vehicles wire harness up into the wire bundle inside the driverside kick panel.

If I can't find this rubber plug for access through the firewall I'm just going to turn this over to an RV dealer and let them chop and hack away. Hate to do it, but I'm getting tired of being so protective of this thing...

The Tekonsha "Prodigy" is a high tier favorite. I installed it last summer but plans changed and I haven't towed yet so I can't comment on performance yet. I have an old Kelsey on my P/U and I was never too impressed with it.

I put mine IN the fuse panel with a velcro strip on it. WHEN I need it , I stick it on a velcro strip on the flat surface left and just below the wheel.

Hi all,

I finished my brake controller installation today. You can see pictures here:

Hensley TruControl brake controller installation

I managed to remove the brake pedal switch from the bracket by accident. Oops. Well, it's back in and it seems to work fine. I'll do some panic stops tomorrow to make sure the ABS works, and I'll swing by the dealer to ask what really needs to be done about this.

This is a good set of brake controller instructions.

http://www.jeepkj.com/forum/showthread. ... controller

I guess is it is a matter of opinion what constitutes "easy". Personally, I think something rated to tow 5000lbs should come with a prewired controller plug. We have a CRD with BOTH the COMPLETE factory tow package AND EVIC and still no contoller plug like Ford and GM. Guess Jeep wants people to risk towing heavy w/o a brake controller.
