Seatbelt warning sound.

Hey,
I don't want anybody to think that I dont wear my seatbelt because I do but when Im wheelin' I don't like to wear it so I can stick my head out of the window easier. As you know when the vehicle is moving and the occupants dont have their seatbelts on the Liberty beeps at you perfusly until you buckel your seatbelt. I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to make the sound go away. The warning light doesnt bother me but the beeping gets annoying and I know that thats the whole point of having it but I just thought I would ask.

Got this from widowmaker, worked for me

.. The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON or Start postion. ...

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and fasten the drivers seatbelt.
2. Start engine, and wait for Seat Belt warning light to turn OFF.
3. Within 60 seconds of starting engine, unbuckle and then re-buckle driver's seat belt at least 3 times, ending with belt buckled.
4. Turn off the engine. A single chime will sound to signify that your life is in your own hands.

I'm not sure. But my '02 Sport doesn't chime since I bought it used from the dealer. The disarm senario may have already been taken care of on mine. The dash light is on if not buckeled but it has never made a peep since I bought it.
I probably havn't helped any. But give the disarm scenario a try Good Luck.

I think you haver to be going 10-15 mph for the chime to come on, are you driving that fast with your head out the window? :shock:

I usually just pull a little slack in the strap when I peek out the window, or better yet, get a spotter. As for turning it off, it's in the owner's manual.

No, your right i dont drive that fast with my head out the window but I do drive on the gravel roads between trails with my seatbelt unbuckled. It seems that as soon as the vehicle starts moving no matter the speed that it starts to chime. I think Ill just disable it so I don't have to listen to it anymore.

odd, my 03 KJ doesnt chime at all. i could be doing 100MPH and wouldn't hear a chime...Bought her brand new from the fatory too....might not have been a safety option in 03?

I would actually like to know where the chime is coming from. I know it's under the dash but any clue where it might be located?

Safety option? Hah. I'm an avid seatbelt wearer and could never imagine a time where I would not where one. BUT. If for any reason I did want to keep my seatbelt unbuckled while driving, any kind of "seatbelt not buckled chime" would make me want to take a knife to the wiring harness...

My cousin just bought a new van from DC and that chime would not go away. My cousin and her husband don't like wearing their seat belts (their choice) Anyways we drove to the junk yard on a weekend and cut the male end of the seat belt and simply inserted it into the female end, chime problem solved. Not a safety thing to do but we all have a choice.
FYI: They do push their kids to buckle up. I think they should practice whey you preach.

I used the procedure Bugnout posted above. It really does work. No more chime.

I always wear my seatbelt...as a matter of fact, when I did the little trick the other day to kill the chime, I wanted to take off and drive without the belt to test it.....it was very un-natural to not click the belt on before I took off and it was uncomfortable to do so.

I wanted to kill the chime because there are times when I am in the car and want to take the belt off while idling (i.e. drive through windows, waiting on someone in a parking lot, etc.). The chime was relentless in those situations, but not so now.
