My engine and engine compartment are still coated in dried mud from May. Yes, I said May. I don't want to damage any electrical components or get water into the engine. I tried spraying my garden hose under there, but not much came off. I guess I've waited too long. :(

Do I need a pressure washer? Can I take the KJ into the do-it-yourself spray gun stall at the local car wash?

What should I avoid spraying? I'm guessing the alternator and computer ... battery's sealed so that shouldn't matter...

Thanks for any advice on tactics and/or products.

From my experience i've just covered the alt, computer and some other highly exposes electrical connectors with a plastic bag.

Try using something like simple green in a fairly lean consentration and power wash her, or just buy a garden hose nozzle that uses a good jet stream and crank the water all the way up.

Cover the intake as well.

i try to do it on a cool engine, slightly warm if anything. as in... cold from overnight, then start for 30 seconds or so. i only cover up my air filter only because its an open aem brute force intake. and spray EVERYTHING with simplegreen in the foamy spray can. let it sit for about 10 min and hose off. and everything turns out pretty darn clean. i recommend this stuff HIGHLY, it turned out a lot nicer than the gunk engine degreaser. and should be safer on plastics and rubber hoses also.

edit: speaking of, why do our libertys get SO much water splashed up into the engine bay??? last time i went on a trail, i even went real slow through the bigger puddles not to splash it all up i the enine bay. and it still coated the engine bay in muddy water

this was from a few trail rides ago, now its nice and clean, i gotta get a recent after pic :)
and no water got on the air filter :) it got one little quarter sized splash of water on it lol, that little shield helped a lot, couldnt believe it. but if i ever go again im putting my stock airbox back on just in case the nose goes too deep entering the water lol. the air intake tube is satin black now as well, the polished aluminum didnt match anything and looked cheap

d be wrong but I don't think that it is a case where Libby's get more water spray. It is just that you are more likely to take your libby in places that cause the spray than any other vehicle. exposing it to that stuff.

I have seen the insides of CJ's and fourunners. all get nasty under there if they are exposed to the off road stuff.

Can't cut it off entirley from the underside. needs the air flow. just be careful when you take it swimming.
