Tires to go with Moabs

I am not lifted, and I am considering going down to 16s, and if I do, I would most likely get Moabs.
My question is, since they are wider x8 vs. x7 of my 17"s, will there be any problem at all to run them with 235/70/16 or do I need wider tires?
I was considering getting BFG KOs. I assume Moabs have different backspacing, so they would stick out/rub?

You will have funny wear on any tire narrower then 245's on a 8" rim,if you want to run 235's stick with 7" rims.245's are better suited for 7" rims to.My 265's have it stated right on the tire to run on a 7" rim to get the correct contact patch and wear.

thanks tjkj, that's what I was thinking about, going with 245. But are 245s OK with stock suspension? I know moabs stick out a bit to compensate the width, but I am just trying to find out if people run them on stock height.. Especially 04+

I ran 265s with stock suspension, you'll be fine.

Yeah with like 40-45 seris sidewalls,I'm running 265/75R16's(31.9" tall) and would not even fit on a KJ without a lift.

isn't there anyone who can post in this topic, who runs moabs with certain tires with stock suspension?

I ran Moabs and 245/75 16's but they rubbed until I put the lift on. Not too bad, but enough to be annoying.

I guess you might try 245/70's, they look to be 29.5 inches tall, about an inch shorter than 245/75's.

It was actually a 35 sidewall, but Hydepin was talking about the width not height anyway.

Hyde-They will work! I've seen them with that setup lol! Seriously though man, your widening you tire by 1 inch, it's not like you're trying to put on 35s :lol:

in the beginning i was thinking of the width, as priority since I am not doing offroad and wont be flexing it that much for it to rub on the shoulders. Height should be fine with 70 or 75s. But, from what I checked, the width of the current 235/65/17 is just barely there, any wider it feels like it will touch the bumpstops. However with different backspacing, which in turn evens out with width, I thought moabs would stick out just abit to recover from the extra width of the tire..

That's the reason I wanted to hear from the unlifted moab/rubicon runners. If I end up with them, my tires are BFG KOs no other, i guess...

Moabs will be just short of being flush with the flares. Its a nice look. IMHO

I am not sure what to do. Don't wanna have problems with 16x8 rims on 235/70/16 (if they end up being too narrow) and on the other hand based on this chart http://www.jeepkj.com/forumpics/tires/tiresize.jpg it is stated that anything taller/wider will rub, although 245 is just right there.

One funny thing, I honestly don't understand why wider tires (245/70/16) will read slower speedo when compared to 235/70/16. It is not taller, it is only wider, so why is there a difference? :?:

it changes the height a bit also - the 70% aspect ratio - is multiplied times the section width 235 or 245 - so there's a height difference also

You are right, i didn't think of that ratio. Thanks for the info.
I checked, cosco is the only place to have them in this area and they won't install anything other than stock size to avoid problems.

That's why you take just the rims in and have them install the tires and then install the rim/tire yourself :wink:

The hieght difference between 245's and 235's in the "70" aspect ratio is not great but the over all circumference is way different.
