mopar hitch harness

i just got a new curt classIII hitch and reese hitch and ball. im about to get wiring for it. but not sure what to get.i dont hae a trailer yet, but i know i wont be getting anything big enough to need brakes. mostly a small jet ski, or yamaha rhino 4x4, or small fishing boat.

with the mopar 4 pin harness, do you need to run any power wires to the front? or does it just plug inbetween that plug on the quarter panel on the passenger side in the back, then the 4pin goes through that grommet to the hitch ball and thats it?

if so, im just going to get the mopar 4 pin. but also, i see that etrailer has 2 wiring 4pin kits for the liberty. the t-one connector that goes inbetween the left and right taillights and is all external. and the one that "looks" like it mounts like the mopar one would mount, to that factory plug inside the jeep behind the trim. any ideas?

I don't believe that any of those adapters would need to be run back up to the front. Looking at the two on e-trailer.com, the only difference between them is where they plug in. The one that plugs in behind the big panel on the side would just plug in between the connectors in the main light wiring harness. With the other one (the cheaper one) you would need to pull off both tail lights and run the wires to each and plug between the vehicle wiring and the lights. I think that either of these two kits would be just as easy.

I chose to get a universal light converter and wire it myself. There is lots of space between the tail lights and the body to hide the box and you really only need to pull off one tail light since the wiring for the tail lights travels under that panel by the tail gate. If you don't mind splicing wires, that's the way to go because it really isn't much more work and the whole setup is around $10 and can be obtained from any auto parts store or even walmart etc.

If you're not comfortable tapping into the light wiring or just want something easier to just plug in and go....then any of the kits you mentioned would work fine.

Oh, one more thought....I just re-read your post. If you plan to do alot of towing of boat trailers or plan on dunking something into the water alot.....You might consider one of the powered modules. What it does is take the signal from your light system, but actually powers your trailer lights from another wire. That way, if you have a short, you just short out the trailer lights and not the lights on the vehicle. If you get one of those setups, you would need to run a fused separate power wire to the battery or another source. There is a power outlet in the trunk, so you could run it through that. Just a thought.

i have had 2 different wiring harnesses burn up, one from e-trailer, and one from u-haul. i dont know why, but both times the electronic box/converter burned up. the u-haul harness was spliced in, the e-trailer was the unplug the tail lights/plug in the harness type. i'm told that the $100 one from mopar is fool proof, i just havent plunked down the $$$ yet.

i ended up getting the mopar one.it was the easiest thing i have ever done lol. even the wire under the jeep snaps into holes in the body. and comes with the 4 pin mounting bracket for the bumper or whatever u wanna mount it to. i ended up paying 83 after tax for it.
