ok so the cig lighter in my jeep is always hot, i want it to turn off with the ignition....

i guess i have one in the front and one in the rear, they are both always hot cause theyre not cig lighters they are the "power adapters"

anyways, i have my garmin and ipod split off my front port and since its always hot - when i turn the car off the devices dont turn off as well so i have to unplug the cords

anyone know what to do to disable this feature, im sure i just have to pop off the center trim and remove the constant and replace with an ignition, maybe i can splice off the receiver deck's cord

any input would be great

If your rig is still under waranty be careful doing that. It will affect your warranty! My pcm on my 01 wrangler went bad and jeep tried to blame it on my self installed rear hitch wiring. [ wiring was not a oem harness]

EOD,

Buy connectors and wire. Get battery sidepost terminals and run heavy wire thru the firewall to a heavy lighter socket.

This works really well for high amp stuff.

You can also connect that same wire to a inverter and use 110 stuff.

The standard connections get too darn hot.

I was having the same problem with my xm unit. pulled the radio and found the power lead that came on with the ignition and line spliced onto it. Good, luck

Run another lighter adapter off the radio circuit on the fuse panel. It avoids splicing wires in the radio harness and has worked great for me. Simple and clean. Radio shack has all the necessary goods. Here's my post for hooking up my Sirius head unit....

you could add a 20 amp (or whatever the lighter circut is) relay inline with the lighter's power line. The relay's switch circut could be controlled as you suggest by the radio circut

EOD, have you considered using add-a-circuit and wire up your Garmin off of the radio circuit? This way it turns off when you turn ignition off. That's how I have my CB hooked up.

My Garmin is actually hooked up to the cig adaptor :) via another add-a-circuit going to the dash-mounted ProClip mount, but that's because I like to keep the battery charged (it's a 3600 with weak battery that really needs new aftermarket battery).

I agree with the1jferg, kind of.

Run that circuit he suggested only run it through a rwlay, like you would a set of lights. have the relay switch to an ignition powered circuit and when ever you turn the key on it triggers the relay and delivers higher power to the aux cig lighter foa ll of your gadgets.

simple and safer that messing with the PCM or the fuse block.

all you have to do is pull the "hot wire" out of the fuse box and re-run it to an acc. fues that looses power when the car is off. ie: radio, wipers, etc... not that hard and it wont void anything. It would be the same thing and running a "remote" for a radio amp or sub wofers.

I just wet to Radio Shack and picked up a 12V adapter with an on/off switch.

I made a mistake.

Whenever folks talk about accessories, I assume they are talking about "BigBoy" stuff like inverters for tools, air, pumps, tvs, computers, or other amp sucking equipment.

I would never recommend the flimsy underdash wires for stuff like that, you'll fry your jeep.

I guess they are fine for IPODS and Garmins

Pop it out and split the hotwire wire one to the other and nut and tape the constant hot and shove it all back in the dash.
